They all look the same to me

Not to offend anyone, but I am not seeing the difference (besides colors). The Submariner, GMT, and Sea dweller all look very similar to the untrained eye. The dd, datejust, and daytona look very different of course, but I'm just not seeing the differences in the sports models. Can someone tip me off...

BTW: Just recently bitten by the bug so I'm taking in all I can. Amazing forum y'all....but a bit addictive

Oh, they're different all right... You're probably keying in on the case, bracelet and even bezel too much. The 40mm 'sports' watches share the same 'look' to the case although there are differences. The oyster bracelet looks the same also, even though they are unique and carry different part numbers. The bezel is, again, different but similar. I forgot the dial, they could look the same as well. I would suggest you read up (here of course) a bit on the Sub, GMT and SD and you'll soon know and see the difference readily. Maybe Mike can chime in with a good comparison pic to see for yourself... Welcome and enjoy your stay

The numbers on the bezel and the hour markers on the dial are different sized.

Yeah, the the GMT/Sub/SD are all similarly styled if not for minor differences. I mean, show it to any non-rolexer and they'll say it's the same watch. I actually mistook my friend's TT GMT for a TTSub a few years back. I mean, everything's the same between the two except for the gmt hand and 24hour markings.

Explorers/yachtmasters/daytonas are all pretty distinct, though. No way you'd confuse those for anything else.

It's brilliant in its simplicity - come up with a basic design that has mass appeal, then tweak it slightly for different models while ensuring that the core design stays intact. In short, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

What's interesting to me is that even when that basic, tried and trusted appearance is closely adhered to, too much of a variation in size sometimes draws howls of criticism from the purists - recall for example, the ongoing controversy over the recently-launched Deep Sea in this forum.

Speak for yourself!!!!!

They are just watches...some are prettier than others!

My wife would be in agreement with Martin's!!!!!!!!!

She'd never understand why somebody would want a collection of sub date, LV, ND COSC, ND Non COSC etc...don't get her started on the vintages!!!!!!!!!

To the untrained eye they do look similar. The Sub, GMT and DSD are all a variation on a theme. However, stick around a bit and you well quickly see the difference.

You actually need to see more to pick them out. Beware, the more you see, the greater the likelihood of being sucked in...

My wife, too, thinks that I'm crazy for wanting a GMT IIc since it "looks similar to my Sea-Dweller." It takes a WIS to appreciate the differences between models and between the years.

They make look similar to someone not familiar with the brand but each watch behaves differently or designed to function differently.
