Official Paul Newman Tribute Thread

Paul Newman was a great man. Congrats to him and his family on the Daytona Rolex watch auction!

I hope to be half the man he was.

I'm not affiliated with the Omega brand so lets get that clear although I do own a couple of Omega watches but I'm going to tell you guys a little story .The Omega watch community and loyal readers of OF are secretly very proud because a special relationship actually exists between Paul Newman and Omega, the rare Automatic ETA based Cal 1143 /Dubois Depraz module Speedmaster blue dial (a Speedy reduced) . I think only 50 were made.

In 1997 , Omega picked Newman /Haas racing driver Michael Andretti as their new ambassador and launched the CART Speedmaster Automatic LE with the blue dial with the racing logo printed on the 6 o'clock subdial. In Dec that year, Newman ordered several timepieces of this CART LE with engraved casebacks to be presented as Christmas gifts to members of his racing team. So these watches with great provenance associated with Paul Newman were never available to the public at ADs

The photos posted is one such example, a beautiful Christmas gift from Paul Newman to Bill Mann , a body engineer of the team since 1983 but the watch till this day (with B+P ) remains in absolute mint condition , untouched, unworn and comes with the special gift note hand written by Paul Newman himself

Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.

There are only murderers in this room!

Some great lines from a great actor.

Yeah Newman was a huge talent and great person as well as a wonderful actor.
Wife and I are big fans. Named our Son after him.
People who want to pass him off as just another actor know nothing about him.

Have to add the rest of the dialogue from "Road to Perdition"......

"There are only murderers in this room! Michael! Open your eyes! This is the life we chose, the life we lead. And there is only one guarantee: none of us will see heaven."
