Most Versatile Rolex Watch

Hey guys,

I know a lot of us don't really give our watches much thought. For many, it's as simple as putting it on and forgetting about it. But, I think everyone would agree that some watches are better suited in certain occasions and not others.

Personally, I think my Air-King with a silver face is probably the most versatile because silver is probably the most neutral of all colors and the fact that it's not big and heavy means it's not uncomfortable to wear during sports and when wearing long sleeved shirts. But, this is just my opinion.

What do you guys think is the most versatile Rolex model?

regards,

lorsban

When I think versatility I think functionality. For me it has to be the GMT. Multi-timezones and the ability to time via the rotating bezel, the GMT has a lot going for it.

Throw in the ability to change inserts on references from the 16710 and back and the GMT is tough to beat.

Another Vote for the Explorer II. Doesn't have the 3 timezones like the GMT Master II(but how often does anyone use that?) but is suitable for almost every occasion I can think of and will still look the part. And if you put it on a NATO it shows a completely different face and even more versatility.

I'm inclined to go with Mike's choice, although the GMT-IIC really does have my heart.

Still and all, if we equate versatile with ubiquitous, I'd vote for the SS Sub Date.

I'd vote for Expy II, for feature and fixed bezel.

GMT2c. The rotating bezel definitely does come in handy. Use it all the time and have memorized where I need to turn it to to see time in different parts of the world that I deal with (New York and Europe).

Daily wearer for me, any time, any occasion and always looks the part. Very hard to beat for versatility's sake.

Have to agree with Mike it terms of purely versatility the GMT wins hands down. Just get a few different inserts then you three or four different look watches for the price of one.

If we really talk about Versatility....well, there is no other choice, it's got to be the GMT.

In terms of practicality it has to be the GMT - the multi time zone function is useful.

In terms of wearing versitility - probably the Sub. The black bezel and dial make it look good for dress and casual.

I almost went with the DJ. It is realy versatile. Looks good smart or casual and its easy to change the appearance of the watch with a dial change.

GMT...waterproof, dual time etc.

Also three different looks with bezel swaps (4 if you count the juby)

Also looks great in a suit or with jeans.

I really love my SubDate, it was my first Rolex, and while for a while I was totally enamored with the Explorer II (I was wearing each time I broke a small personal fishing record) now that I'm diving again, the SubDate has hardly left my wrist and really made me realise how much I've missed it.

The bezel is really really useful and it is quite a subtle watch at the end of the day being able to mix it up in all situations. It's on it's standard issue Oyster bracelet, but I'm thinking about switching back to the NATO as it's a little bit more practical in the water.

As usual it's hard to disagree with Mike. I love the GMT and can't think of a more versatile watch from Rolex or otherwise.

It's a tough battle GMT vs Expy II.

The ExplorerII is essentially a GMTII wannabe.
I'm surprised no one voted for the Zebra Rolex or the Leopard Daytona.

If it wasnt for the polished center links, Id vote for the GMT IIc, but since they scratch easily, Id hace to say the Expy II, just becasue It's more rugged

1. STAINLESS STEEL SUBMARINER WITH DATE. (gee whiz now this is a classy class watch). Good to wear with anything (from my optic). When I see one , I'm like woooooow (just like it was the first time).

2. STAINLESS STEEL / 18k GOLD TWO TONE SUBMARINER WITH DATE. (Choose either blue or black). You have class and tons of elegance rolled into one.

3. GMT IIc / GMT IIc TWO TONE. The two tone is an eye grabber for sure. What a watch to behold in person.

4. DAYTONA (any of the many metals produced). I never thought I'd say I like the looks of the daytona, but I just did.
