Should I sell my Submariner?
I would really like a white face Daytona and have been considering selling my Sub date to fund the purchase. I really love my Sub but in my eyes the Daytona is the ultimate Rolex and it would be the watch I had for life. My only worry is whether I would regret selling my Sub in the future. Any advice?
I bought the Sub for £2300 in 2003. It has been serviced this year and comes with all paperwork. How much do you think this would be worth? All advice appreciated. |

How about you get the Daytona and then sell the sub? You may want to keep them both.

You should get your money back on the Sub...maybe a bit less.. Depends on your area/market.
But that is a drop in the bucket for a Daytona.. I wouldn't do it because I've never sold any Rolex I've had. But I could see that if you are a one watch person...it might make sense.

I sold my first Rolex that I got in 1988. Sold it in 1992 and have always missed it!

I just sold my SS sub to an AD that offered 3400.00 for it towards a SS Daytona. I do miss the sub, but I can purchase new sub or wait for new improved SS sub.

If you need the date feature, then you might miss your sub. Also, the sub is probably the most iconic Rolex. I would not do it.

I wouldn't do it. The SS Sub-date is still the most iconic Rolex out there!!

Expect back what you paid for it, but then expect to put the best part of £4-£5K towards a Daytona if you go grey market.

Hi,
I too have had a SS Sub since 2004,in 2005 I ordered a black face Daytona after 6 months I got the call and picked it up................2 days later I sold it. The watch just did not do anything for me at all I now have a GMT IIC and a GMT II pepsi but the Sub still gets most wrist time by far..... So your call, but I would not let the Sub go without being certain about the Daytona. Regards Mike. |

Thanks for all the advice. My gut instinct was not to sell and after reading your comments I will hang on to it. It just means a bit of a longer wait before I can get my Daytona.

Do what you want to do, just because we are saying don't do it, does not mean you shouldn't. Buy the watch you want!

Follow your instincts. We are all different. I love my Sub and don't have much love for the Daytona so I would not sell. If you find yourself realy hankering after the Daytona and if keeping the Sub and getting a Daytona is not an option - then sell.
I would give it some time before making a decision. Time puts things in perspective. Good luck.

I don't think you ever want to sell your 1st Rolex. I know mine, also a Submariner, was special and I think I will always keep it, no matter how many more I get. My second watch was a TT Blue sub (My grail watch, The best watch ever!). I am so glad I have both.

Up to you, but I'd keep the sub date since at least you'll have one Rolex while you save for the Daytona. If you sell the sub date, you'll have nothing as you save up for the additional cash you'll need for the Cosmograph.

I wouldn't do it! But then again Daytonas are not my cup of tea! I would rather own both a Sub and a GMT rather than one Daytona!

I learned my lesson. I will never sell my Rolexes.
It's meant for me to enjoy & pass on to my kids later. Therefore I will not buy any Rolex that I can's afford & ended up flipping it. |

I would sell the subdate if that is the only way to get the daytona.
If not keep it. I am glad didn't sell mine. No matter how much I adored the Daytona(s), I always find time wearing the subdate. |
