Hi all,

I'm considering a Rolex GMT Master II two-tone. From my research, secondhand two-tone models with the pre-ceramic bezels cost about 2-3k less ($5.5 - 7k v. $8.5 - 10k). I may actually prefer the pre-ceramic model as I like the gold GMT hand v. the green one. Thoughts from anyone who has experience with either? Thanks so much!

It’s simply a matter of your taste and style. I’d always choose the older version GMT, myself.

When spending that much money I would get the one that you like as it could be more costly down the road if you don't. Good Luck!

It is more than just a bezel. Different bracelet, Easy Link, thicker crown, thicker case, and so on.

For me it is worth it.

I agree. The bracelet alone is worth the difference. When you add a crown that actually fits the dimensions of the watch, you're only swinging the decision in favour of the six digit even more.

Exactly. The bracelet on a 6 digit model is more adjustable, having fewer permanent links, making centering the clasp much more achievable.

While I think the 5 digit TT GMT is stunning, the fit is everything to me.

IMHO Six digit's seems the way to go, the improvements are in every detail. I recently traded my 14060 for a 114060 and never looked back..

I prefer the updated 6 digit Rolex watches after having tried 4 5 & 6 digit references (this is not to say that there are no pros for owning a 4 digit or 5 digit Rolex). So i would opt for the 116713 just out of personal preference. It is not just the bezel that is updated on 6 digit GMTs, clasps and bracelets are updated also, dials are maxi with larger indices and the whole feel of the watch is upgraded imho.
However some may argue that the case on a 5 digit Rolex is more balanced and less square. So try them both on before you decide.

The ceramic bezel is probably the thing I like most on the newer model. Aside from the lovely shine, I also very much like the sense of depth in the carved-out numbers.

Keep in mind that this forum has leaned heavily towards 6-digit watches of the last five years or so. You might also try asking in the vintage forum (although I know the older GMT isn't technically vintage.)

Recently sold my 17 year old GMT and picked up a 116713LN. I think feels better in every way. I’d go for it.
