Leather Strap for Datejust

Hi All,

I've been looking for a leather/alligator strap for my 16014 and wanted to tap folks here on their favorite makers. I'm considering the below. Thanks a lot!

Hirsch
Hodinkee
Jean Rousseau

In Europe Rolex offers for this model a calfskin or lizard strap in black or brown with rolex steel buckle to replace a broken or worn bracelet. I am not sure what is the custom in USA though.

I recommend Bulang & Sons. They do source the same from JPM (as does Hodinkee) but I do find the quality and fit a lot better (perhaps the customization Benhard at Bulang does with JPM).

Out of curiosity. Is there a photo thread showing the combinations people have used on here?

Seems like most straps these days all have a rough out finish with contrasting thread near the lugs. Getting a bit boring eh? :) There are literally thousands of variations available, try to find the strap that looks good on your watch. Try to build a variety of straps that can be used with all your watches.

You can get a beautiful strap for 20 bucks or 300. The Buffalo leather strap on the 16030 with Roman dial was a 20 dollar strap about 15 years ago. The black Croc on the TOG was 160 a similar number of years ago. You can get many years out of leather, just avoid sweating like a pig while wearing them. :)

OP, if you're still interested, check out MARTU Straps.

Thanks! I actually purchased a DeBeers Alligator, quite happy with it! Will post a photo once I switch back into the strap.

As promised, thought I'd share the DeBeers Alligator. In my opinion, money very well spent! I couldn't bring myself to spend to the tune of 240 EUR on a Jean Rousseau and glad I didn't. The craftsmanship, stitching, and quality of materials are very good on this strap.

My avatar is my daily wear 1601 w a black alligator strap. Only advise I’d give is probably going to be viewed as sacrilegious by purists...but don’t buy the expensive straps for summer wear. They typically are lined w very supple softer leather that does not endure sweat. I have ruined 2 very expensive straps in 2 summers. If you must have a top quality strap, save it for cooler months and buy an alligator pattern leather strap for the summer months. Only you will know the difference.

Just my .02.
