Rolex Service Estimate: How accurate do you think they are?

Hi everyone,

To those who have experienced a Rolex Service, how often does their estimate (after inspection/diagnostics) go up? Just wondering as I got my estimate back for a submariner and I'm worried it'll go up and up as the watchmakers take it part.

Cheers

I guess it depends on what they find when they open it up. One would expect that if the watch was keeping good time with no anomalies when you sent it in that there would not be any reason to expect major repairs.
I have had full services on both my automatics (the $1000. jobs) and subsequent problems with a broken Pallet Fork on one and a Crown replacement on the other were fixed under "warranty" of the Service.
I have found the RSC to be very fair.

You normally get the estimate back from the RSC after they have opened the watch up and inspected it.

Rolex is like a Box of Chocolates. You'll never know how much the cost of a service until they see what's inside...

Probably different from different repair centers... When I had my 16750 for service they had to replace a few unexpected parts related to date change but I didn't have to pay any additional. They said they missed it during the pre-inspection and therefore they took the cost, they stood by there initial cost estimate.

I've never serviced a box of chocolate and probably never will.

Every estimate I ever had from the RSC (more than a dozen) was exactly what was charged.

I just had my 16710 serviced at RSC Dallas, and the total cost matched the estimate. I am very pleased with the final product.

Both times I used RSC, final cost matched the quoted estimate.

If the watch is running, but it may be fast/slow thus requiring a service, and if it looks to be in decent condition, it is pretty straightforward to get a reasonable quote. If, however, the watch is not running, or was dropped and/or show signs of damage (i.e. cracked crystal, water intrusion) it is more difficult to provide a quote close to the actual cost.

And that's why they open it up, examine it for worn parts and give you an exact service cost.

Why make it sound more complicated then it is?

I relayed my own experience.

Went to AD, dropped off my Rolex for service by RSC, received an estimated cost (a quote). AD asked what I wanted done, watch is in good condition, so based on their knowledge of Rolex service costs were able to provide a reasonable quote without opening the watch.

Rolex, upon receipt of watch and examination, confirmed the service price I was quoted by the AD.

Regret any difficulty on your part comprehending.

No difficulties comprehending at all.

At the end Rolex gave the exact price for the service which is what matters and not how many guessed it beforehand.

On a side note I find that odd as when you give it to an AD for service then Rolex won't communicate with you and the AD usually don't give you the original Rolex invoice as they keep a cut for their "service".

I took my Rolex to the service center in NYC. They were very pleasant, though it's a very "sterile" environment. After taking the watch, I was told I'd receive an email with an estimate in a few days. I received an email with an estimate in less than 48 hours. The estimate included the "mandatory" charges (if you decline the watch is sent back) and optional charges for replacing the crystal, crown, etc. I opted for all recommended items and the service charge was exactly as quoted. I received a call when the watch was completed, provided payment information and received the watch back in 2 days. The experience was simple and I'm satisfied.

superlative. +/-2 generally... so in estimate terms its probably a percent deviation

Same here. Had my 16710 serviced at the Dallas RSC and they kept exactly to the estimate. Of course they gave me options on what to replace, but the total price was spot on.

An estimate is just that, an estimation.

A quotation is what I get when I go to get a watch serviced. All of my written quotations have been accurate to the penny.

Exactly. I never thought of them as "estimates" at all. It's how much they're agreeing to charge you

There's a really good chance it won't be less than the estimate.

No really the case. When you deliver the watch in person depending on the RSC they will open it up and show you. Then the quote l8ke Adam said is bang on the money.

Never had a bill go over quote.

I just had my 16710 serviced at Dallas RSC, and I was charged exactly what the quote indicated. They were very pleasant, and I am very happy with the 5 week turn around time. I know others have experienced some dreadful events, but I am a pleased customer. I purchased the watch used from another forum member, so the peace of mind that Rolex serviced it makes me comfortable for another 10 years!

Mine would have been accurate, had I stuck with the first optional choices I made. I called them up and made a change in choice of band and it came out $160 less than it should have. I think I confused them and they charged me less. Still I paid over $1900 for service, including polish, new crown, new crystal, added gold clasp and alligator leather band.

What I was quoted is what I was charged on several watches I have had serviced. They are looking at the movement before you get a quote. No surprises for Rolex or you.
