First time poster and new member... please help

Hello people. I'm more than a bit embarrassed, and this is my first post to boot.

I think I just got burned on a CL buy. It's supposedly a Daytona but I think I got taken. Back face, silver subdials. But subdial at 9 o'clock position has days of the week. Hmm. A bit of cursory research says it shouldnt have that. I took it home, took off bracelet... and there's no reference # or serial # between lugs. I trued to post pics but apparently photos from my iphone are too big and I have too resize...sigh.

No need to post pics. The watch is fake.

You have what we call a "DateTona" where the subdials are date indicators. They are low end and wholly unconvincing fakes.

I hope you didn't spend too much on it.

$600, peeps. I fell for a good story from an honest looking guy.

The CL ad is still up! In Albany, NY, A Daytona for $600.

$600 is, obviously way too cheap, even $6,000 sets off red flags...

Get a screen capture of the ad!!

It will help law enforcement when you go after the guy . . .

Do not flag or report the ad(s) to craigslist 'cause you don't want him to know you're onto him.

Call the cops and ask them to see if he has a second watch to go along with his second ad.

DO NOT TIP YOUR HAND 'CAUSE HE'LL RUN LIKE A RABBIT!

You should pray he has another one . . .

Greed to make another deal would get him out of his hole, and into a meet with a plainclothes cop.

There is nothing that the law enforcement will do. The OP purchased a fake watch and now he owns a fake watch. I do apologize, but the OP's only hope of getting his money back will be directly from the seller which I doubt will be too likely.

Actually, the ad reads . . .

"Rolex Daytona great condition. - $600

I don't know much about this watch as far as what it's worth, it looks pretty much like new, it's probably around 1000-2000 brand new.. It's in excellent working condition, beautiful, and clean. I'm really not that into wearing wrist watches, I normally use my cell phone to tell the time when needed. It was given to me by someone who recently passed away. No scam artist please, I will not take a fake check only cash in person.

all or text only emails will not be answered."

The OP purchased a Rolex Daytona, based on the ad. That the watch is fake is due to fraud by the seller.

The purchaser certainly has recourse through the legal system whether the seller misrepresented the watch purposely or not.

If the coppers set up a sting to buy a second watch (if a second watch were to exist), then the seller could claim ignorance and make restitution to the OP.

Otherwise, the only recourse is to set up a meeting through a friend, and to take along a .45, but that opens up a plethora of potential problems . . .

Why wouldn't you do your research before handing someone $600 for a fake watch?

I thought I had, Phil. I read about font and spacing and dial appearance, length of minute ad hour hands. But I f'ed up, for sure.

You ever make a mistake, Phil?

If you honestly thought you were getting an authentic Daytona for $600 then you must have known you would have been taking advantage of a seller's ignorance or desperation.

As it was, the seller took advantage of you.

I'm sorry for your situation and sincerely hope it gets resolved in your favor, but it's bad karma all around.

Just my 2 cents.

Don't beat yourself up over it. At least you found this forum, and you'll not only learn more than you ever cared to know about Rolex, but you may even find your desired watch at a significant savings.

Consider the $600 spent on education, but I predict you'll make that back in savings when you purchase from one of our "trusted sellers".

Good luck, and welcome.

Astonishing how people will throw $600 bucks around and hope for the best. The ad is textbook typical someone trying to offload their POS fake - 'I don't know anything about watches, yet I have a Rolex Daytona. Here are some pictures with the requisite blurriness so the incorrect subdials can't be made out."

We all make mistakes. That ad has scam written all over it. If it were a real Daytona the guy could’ve pawned it for for 3-4K easily.

Yeah sorry dude. I just properly read the thread. What appears glaringly obvious to the folks here may not be apparent to a newb. Good lesson learnt at least.
