is sh@t about to hit the fan?

Greetings folks,

I am dealing with somewhat of an unpleasant situation. Everything is still fluid so I am going to omit any names for now.

Recently I saw an ad here for a pre-onwed rolex, pictures looked fine. Seller is established with plenty of feedback. Spoke with him on the phone and paid agreed price via Paypal.

He ships me the watch and when I get it few things are not as advertised. The watch itself is fine, no concern there (yet)
However, the box is not the same as pictured in the ad. In the ad its the newer style box, shipped older style. Seal and hangtag pictured in the ad are not present at all.

Obviously, I informed the seller that this is a problem. He tells me that he is not sure what happened and will look for missing/wrong items and get back to me.

If everything is not as advertised I do not want the watch.

Whats your take on this? How concerned should I be and what recourse do I have?

there have been a few recent cases on here where sellers are using stock photos.

if the seller has a good rep then maybe he will sort it out.

You can invite the seller to join this discussion. Big sellers usually seem happy to showcase their excellent after-sales service to a wider audience when these kind of situations arise.

Could be simple as the watch was mistakenly placed in wrong box.

If watch has been delivered and is as expected, give the seller a chance to make good.

I've bought from a seller on here before, and saw that the the first number of the serial was different than the one pictured in the photo. However, the watch is legit and everything else was perfect. Could be that the seller has multiple of the same watches, which was probably the case in my situation or the seller sold the same watch before and is using the same pics. Obviously in this case some things are missing, so hope it gets sorted out.

prior to payment I specifically asked if the pics are of the actual watch and everything that accompanies it. He said it was.
As you guys are suggesting I am giving him time to find everything. Dont want to dent anyone reputation with gibing them a chance to make things good.

Good point. I was assuming screen names had names attached.

A very trusted seller here omitted an accessory on a watch I bought. It took a few emails (and a nudge from Mon ), but he got me the accessory. If you're satisfied with the watch, I would be patient with the accessories. But do keep after the seller. Don't expect it to just happen.

As Adam said, invite the seller to this thread. We all like to hear that the seller is a standup guy and has cleaned up any errors in the shipment.

I have seen these sorts of threads turn into unilateral mob scenes.

Why post the title is sh@t about to hit the fan? when Do I have a problem here? would have sufficed?

I have seen users pilloried in absentia when threads impugning their reputations were allowed to run riot, all while the subjects were completely in the dark.

I have seen threads started by victims of scams where the victims were victimized further by second-guessing and piling on from the very people who should be trying to help them.

Hearing and seeing one side of this current issue resolves nothing, and the problem is exacerbated by leaving the seller ignorant of this thread.

Until a seller has refused to cooperate, these sorts of threads are pure supposition and truly counter-productive . . .

So now 24 hours have past, is there a resolution for your issue with the seller?

glad to say, I was able to work it out with the seller. He sent me a new box and seal tag.
Thank you all for your input.
