DD40 platinum with Hindu Arabic numerals

I know this watch is limited and hence the price is what it it...but do any of you find the Hindu Arabic numerals unique enough to choose this version over Roman or our Arabic numerals?

I think you are referring to the real Arabic numerals.
If I recall correctly the only thing that came out of the Indian subcontinent on the watches was the numeral "0". And i'm not sure it was Hindu in origin?
Of course that little number which really isn't a number as such has shaped the world as we know it like nothing else known to man kind.

I have worked in the Middle East a fair bit and have personally come to admire the Arabic numerals as a thing of great beauty.
I should imagine I could look at the numerals and still know at a glance what the collective numbers are.
If I were ordering such a watch and Rolex would allow me to choose, then it would be specified with the Arabics accordingly without a doubt.

Do as you please without further concern

The term "Hindu Arabic" in 830 was a reference to geography, roughly transcribed as "Indian - Persian", as a result of a mathematics system originating from India and developed in the Persian world. So if you are going to make reference to "Hindu" in today's language it should read "Indian"!.

Its hardly difficult if you know where 1 to 12 normally sit on a watch dial

(I'll give you the day though )

I would not unless this was my culture and heritage. Other options for this watch are outstanding and I believe that for the premium charged for the dial described you could buy the standard version and another watch.

Both Britannica and Merrimack Webster label them Hindu Arabic.

The inventors of the symbols may be Indian...and the major religion in India is Hindu so what’s your point?

Every mathematic cite I checked calls the origin of these numerals Hindu Arabic which then developed into the current Arabic numerals used in the middle east by Muslims...but these same original numerals also developed into our own numerals we use in the USA which are just called Arabic numerals.

I get the feeling you are actually hitting yourself on your head as opposed to just posting the emoji.

The point is that the reference to "Hindu numerals " used in today's language is not correct, as the reference was purely geographic, nothing to do with religion! On your basis, should we be using the term "Hindu - muslim numerals? Clearly not!

Look. I just think the numerals are beautiful and artistic and flowing in a manner that makes the dial beautiful. That’s all. I am obviously not an expert on
the history of numerals and their entomology.

I guess I don’t understand why people have to post with with negative or critical
Observations.

You never even mentioned if you liked the dial.

Just forget it.

Thanks for that. Appreciate it. Do the numerals have special meaning to you because of your religion or do you just appreciate the artistic fluidity of the symbols? A lot of people wouldn’t buy it because the symbols have “no meaning” but I think that dial is way more beautiful than Roman numerals, stick markers, or 1,2,3 of western cultures.

No special meaning I just appreciate the artistry and having something different to most of the DD’s out there. If the extra funds is no issue and you like the look of it (which it seems you do), I would go for it in a heartbeat. You’ve got to love that piece yourself, doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

Looks great in the middle east too if you ever visit.!

If you can get it for about 38% off msrp then maybe. Sorry, looks lovely but not that rare and gray guys have it.

Maybe the gray dealer can chime in, as it seems when he gets certain models a thread starts on here about it. Hmmm....

Unless that watch did something to you aesthetically that couldn't be replicated by another watch, I'm going to venture a guess that you're not going to get the bang for your buck out of it.

But that's just my thought...I love the deconstructed Roman dial on the DD40, so this one just doesn't compare. IMO.
