The Kermit.. I want one , not sure why.

I have a two tone blue sub. Bought new. I never wear it. It attracts a bit much attention. Can anyone help me decide between a black bezel sub or the Kermit. I don’t care for the hulk. I saw an LV Kermit locally but passed on it. I shouldn’t have. Anyway, I welcome thoughts from Kermit owners. I might sell the blue sub outright in 10years. I’ll certainly make my money back and then some. I’m not sure why I like the Kermit. Is this anyone’s daily watch? Just asking thoughts. It’s subtle, different, durable, and flies under the radar. When I wear the bluesy sub, people look at it. It makes me uncomfortable because I keep thinking I’ll get robbed, plus I’m just not into vanity. What can I expect to pay, I wonder. The pre owned one I saw was 9200$ which I thought was insanely high. It had a few scratches , but it is before Xmas and it seems people have lost their minds paying 11k for Batman gmts. Reportedly..

I find the Kermit beautiful . Really gorgeous piece.

I talked to an AD.. a sales guy there says the Hulk is among the highest “most traded-in” watches from Rolex, he’s unsure why. He says you’d not believe how many guys trade theirs in, taking losses, only to have another guy or gal immediately buy it from their pre owned stock... he says the hulk makes them a lot of money because many don’t keep it. I find the hulk gorgeous, but the reason i don’t like it is because it’s too much green.. for me. That’s just me. But it was interesting to hear people ditch the hulk more than other watches, second most traded Rolex, he says, is the two tone Daytona pre ceramic.

As for the Kermit, they’re everywhere, including on here, but people are asking a bit much for them. More power to them. I cannot pay what people are asking, so i might just have to admire this piece from afar. I already have a deep blue that I wear all the time. So, the Kermit might just sit , not sure, that’s the thing about this, for me anyway. The only real way to know if you’re going to wear watch is after you have it for six months or longer..

I don't know if you will be making money on your TT blue sub. Like PM pieces, they depreciate a lot. Unless you got it at a good discount.

Regarding the LV 50th. I see a couple selling on the forum for $8k to $9k. I can see the price on the piece keep going up. So get one while they are still around 8 to 9k.

Keep in mind, locality of AD might have something to do with this as well. Different locations (even in U.S.) have a different approach to attire/fashion and people approach it differently.

I can see Hulk being a fall in love / out of love / in love /out of love / ... type of a watch for some. For some, like me, I am in it for life. I find that dial along with the LB dial to be two of the most beautiful dials ever. Living in the sunny california with a more casual lifestyle helps enjoy those dials even more.

Well, it seems that if you're not wanting to attract attention the black on black would be the way to go here. Just sayin.

Here's mine to help you decide :

I don't wear it everyday because it is in practically brand new condition, and I figure I'll keep it for my kids. Got it from a friend of mine for a very good price just two months ago. Yup, like you, I was late into the Kermit game too, but he gave me a deal I couldn't refuse. I was never a fan, but after seeing it - instant convert.

My often-worn watch is my black DSSD. Just love the size and heft of that one.

Since you mentioned it, I also got a Batman just last week, and incidentally, I plan on using this as my daily or travel watch.

Pardon the plastic, I still haven't gotten around to unsealing it yet. Haha! Prolonging the excitement.

I hope your AD is right. I'm actually looking for a Hulk as my next piece.

Yes, pretty pieces. I don’t think the Kermit attracts much attention. That’s just me. The hulk is pretty but too green. At the days end I can see myself getting a Kermit after the next USA housing collapse, if it happens, I think it will sometime in 2019.

It's one you get once seen in person. Devil is in the details on the dial for a true enthusiast. Good luck finding a prime example.

The misuse of this particular idiom annoys me terribly. In its proper usage it refers to an unforeseen consequence of an otherwise reasonable idea. To employ the phrase merely to acknowledge that details exist is utterly foolish.

The misuse of adverbs terribly annoys me. Adverbs modify verbs, so placing an adverb at the end of a sentence, well after the verb's position in the sentence, is utterly foolish.

We got a bad@$& here...I'm sorry that I've offended you. English isn't my first language and I'm happy to be corrected at any time. Hopefully my post helped the op in his lv decision...that was my only intent. The internet truly is a wondrous place.

No worries, if English is not your first language then you are doing very well here, I'm sure far better than most here could hope to if the roles were reversed.

You are correct about the incorrect use of the idiom, however shame on you for pointing that out.

This is a watch forum, not a grammar forum. One's level of education, wealth or class should not matter here.

I look forward to you next horological thread or post.

Yep. The Rolex Submariner Story from Mondani is a great reference for this to see all the variations and decide which one you prefer. It's unbelievable how many subtle changes the Sub has gone through since the beginning. A lot of it is stuff that won't be apparent to the naked eye at first glance.

Prices

As some of you commented on the price of the Kermit, a jewelry store that sells Rolex has one in town, used, and are asking $11k!

As I remember Tony G (justrolexes) had a bunch of Kermits for sale awhile back...check him out, he's a great trusted seller.

I just got mine a few weeks ago and here are my thoughts.

Previously I had mostly enjoyed 6-digit references. I even had a 16610 in the past and I never bonded with it.

Since getting the Kermit, it may be my favorite watch. Over my 116500, BLNR, and over the Hulk.

I think it's the combination if the more traditional 5-digit look with a more modern maxi-dial. Throw in the super cool green bezel and you have a winner.

Wow—those Prices make my head spin! I owned a D serial Kermit about eight years ago and sold it for the (then) going rate. Sure wish I still had it! I do prefer my Hulk though.

Honestly to me the Kermit is much more special than the Hulk. It has the classic Submariner design and was the first and true anniversary Sub. While the Hulk dial is beautiful, combined with the ceramic bezel it's just too much green. The black dial makes it much more versatile. In addition it's also now almost 8 years? out of production and prices will just keep going up. If I picked up a mint Kermit, I probably would not wear it really often though to keep it looking as great as possible. It is definitely a collector's watch.

As for your blue Sub, market prices for the 116613 are the highest they've been in a while so you wouldn't be taking a big loss right now. Usually they sell for anywhere from $9.5-10.5k depending on condition and B&P. Right now most are priced at and over $11k for the blue dial. A Kermit in mint condition should be a couple thousand less. A lot more if it's unworn with a full set obviously.

Personally I love the Bluesy and it's a watch that I plan to add in the future. Well either the 16613 or a nice example of the 16618 for the right price. But if you're not comfortable wearing a blingy watch, which the Bluesy definitely is, then the Kermit is a great choice. I would also consider the BLNR. Prices are crazy right now but when they're back to normal, it's a great purchase if you like GMTs and the look of the bi-color bezel.

Being someone who isn't affected much by collector sentiment, I can't really imagine spending so much more simply on larger markers and a green bezel. I'm not even sure I like it any more than the regular black 16610, but collectors be collectin'!

At the end of the day, this is why I love the 14060 no date. Or the milgauss. I agree and I believe I’ve missed my opportunity to grab a Kermit. It is what it is. My two tone is nothing to sneeze at, so to speak. It’s gorgeous, just a bit attention attracting . Most people likely think it’s fake anyway, right?
