My AD is low on inventory

Went to my local AD today.....my goodness, they do not have much inventory. The salesman was telling me that Rolex hasn't been sending as many watches to the US this year. Is this true??

^ Maybe they figure since they got no inventory to sell, why even bother going to work?

As to the thread question, wow even in California?

I know the topic of Rolex-pocalypse (or Watch-mageddon if you will) has permeated to practically every thread here, I was under the impression that the US is not as affected as Europe and Asia.

Maybe its strategy - cut supply to create hysteria and desperation to grow the prestige and desirability of the brand. Then the prices can be increased and less desirable models sold to some.

I guess that is a cynical view. It could just be a brief period where all stock has been made and sold and demand has outstripped supply.

Checked several ADs at zurich, milan, venice, florenze, rome, london, manila and Hong Kong. Not a single desirable SS sports models are available.
I guess Rolex is really doing all this on purpose

Sacramento...

My local dealer is low on SS sport models too. Lots of gold and TT though.

Same story here in Australia, my AD has no SS Daytona, gmt or subs, just explorer 2. I've been asking for nearly 2 months but always get the same polite response. Is it cynical to think the shortage is a deliberate ploy and a precursor to a price hike?

I have been waiting two months for a car, I guess the manufacturer is not making them fast enough.

What should I do?

Rumors are of a price increase early 2018, drives dealers to hold on products and some kitchen table flippers to buy to make a quick profit

If I were a Rolex AD I wouldn't be too happy right now. The holidays are here and I'm sure they have clients looking to buy watches, and if I don't have inventory to sell them, the Breitling, JLC, IWC etc. dealer down the street does.

Rolex has ceased production for the year. Each AD might get another delivery, might not.
My AD ordered 75 watches for their most recent delivery and got 14. They have zero stainless sports with the exception of 2 Milgauss. If you’re looking for stainless...good luck in 2018...not happening this year most likely.

Come to Canada. Was in two Toronto area ADs last weekend. They were complaining of the lack of stock and displaying more PM watches in the cases normally reserved for SS but still had SS Subs, GMT and Explorers.

Was at AD in Mall of America (MN) over Thanksgiving. Low inventory on Rolex as well; next shipment mid-late Feb. '18. One sales associate gleefully added that with the Super Bowl coming to town sales should be fantastic! She was at the Brietling counter...

I stopped by a few AD's in San Diego, CA this week and NO Subs! Both said they are not sure what is going on but everyone is looking for them and they don't have any. Said the past 3-4 months it has been like this.

Maybe Rolex is retooling for updates to the Sports Models with new cases and movements and want to move existing inventory, especially the profitable PM versions. I'm amazed though how prices are moving upward in the secondary market, so it goes. Cheers!

eBay is a tricky place to buy high value items unless you do your due diligence and are 110% confident. Wouldn't recommend that for your first Rolex. I would go through an AD first and if you absolutely can't wait, then try the TRF Rolex for Sale section with a known seller (still need to do your due diligence). Good luck! Cheers!
