Why do you need your watch to tell you the date?
Just curious as i can easily remember dates and even if I couldn't I can whip out my handy dandy smart phone.
So... for those who say they must have a watch with the date... why is that? |

Because I don't always remember the date (that's what happens when you're retired).

The wrist watch's convenience today is the same as it was 100 years ago. It displays information more conveniently on the wrist. Heck, at this point, I'd even miss the day of the week on my watch, let alone the date! |

I like it for a few reasons. Convenience, as well as aesthetics.

I don’t. I don’t need a Rolex.
But I have them. It’s not about what you need, it’s about what you want. |

Boy, I must have a watch to tell time. It drives me crazy if I don't wear one and have to dig out my phone.

Funny, when my daily wearer had a date I used the date function all the time to tell the date. Now that I have an ND as a daily wearer, I don’t miss it at all.

For those who want to use their phones to tell the time, too, there's always this option:

Yeah, yeah wiseacre. You are stating the obvious. I assume some have a real need for the date and was just curious. Get back to preaching about the gloom and doom of mechanical watches (dude from Cali as I recall...).

It's just habit for me...my first nice watches had the date on them and I'm used to looking at it when I'm signing a check or something.

When I'm retired, I doubt I'll care what the date is

Having worn a watch with the date complication for many years, it is my natural habit to check the watch for the date, even if its only to confirm what I already know.
I am "Old School" so would very rarely use my phone to check the date. That said, I will shortly be acquiring my first non date watch, to mark a special occasion and also as I approach retirement. "I will not need to know the date" LOL

If useful when you sign documents and contracts. You don’t have to look at your phone or computer, it makes you look competent and saves a little time.

I’m not sure what you mean??? I was being serious. It drives me nuts not to wear a watch or have the date on it. And I live in Oregon.

I like the date on my watch because its easier to look at my wrist instead of digging into my front pocket whenever someone asks me what's the date today. I forget the date often. |

Absolutely. My wife also asks what the day and date is quite often, so it keeps me from getting annoyed by being able to check quickly. I wish she’d wear a watch.

Christ, i have a better natural sense of time of the day than the day of week or date of month. I look at my watches for those latter bits than the actual time
Sad one is when I look to my wrist for the day of week and I'm wearing a watch without that complication -- I must look so befuddled when I do that. |

I only lose track of the day if I am working with no days off for a while but even then can generally remember.
I am usually no so good at remembering dates though and find it a useful function to have at a glance. |

✓ Date complication is a deal breaker for the majority of Asian watch buyers and non WIS. The Speedmaster is an exception because you can theorectically still set the date using the minute recorder function
✓ Some people are "brain dead" sort of like having early Alzheimer's so to speak... ✓ This is not a FB social media gathering but a highly critical conceited watch forum full of lunatics and OCDs ✓ Glancing at the date can trigger a specific recent or distant memory of an event or task reminder or dateline ✓ I know of a watch enthusiast on another forum who said the date complication is like a woman's breasts.Out of curiousity I asked him what watch was he wearing at that time.He replied the Breguet Marine Big Date.... |
