A Pepsi Dilemma...

I have a dilemma on my hands. I have acquired these two beauties recently.

My heart is telling me 16750 but my head is telling me 16710.

The 16750 has so much character and patina, but I'm afraid the tritium will deteriorate. I will be wearing one daily so the 16710 makes more sense to me.

Which one would you keep and why?

Left - 1980s 16750
Right - 2007 16710

Unfortunately keeping both is not an option.

That 16750 is just too good to give up.

I think you already have you answer.
16750 is a great watch and has the character.

But, 16710 would be my choice as a daily wearer.
Would still miss the open 6 date wheel though.

I actually have both and would not be able to give up either...

The watch I miss most when it’s not near to hand is the 16750 for all the reasons you just mentioned.

But as an everyday watch, I would also say the more modern watch is a better bet.

Touch decision. I don’t know why you can’t keep both - but I suspect you will regret not doing so!

Ohhh I wouldn’t be able to let that 16750 go! OTOH the 16710 is better suited for daily wear. I would keep the 16750 and hope to be able to get another 16710 down the line.

I love my 16710 but would take that 16750 over it in a heartbeat. I love vintage however. I do agree with the previous post for everyday the more modern is probably wiser.

Why are people worrying about wearing vintage watches for every day wear (not even swimming)?!

Look at all the old guys on TV coming up with their 50-60s Submariners and GMT's and look how they are after all these years.

These watches are durable and can take it.

That 16710 is beautiful and one of the last Pepsi made. I would pick the 16710

I'd keep the old one. You can stabilise the lume from the hands

^^^ I agree.

(I'd still choose the 16710 though, I just like it better)

Perhaps it's not a durability issue, but a concern around not having a quick set date or independent second time zone...

I'd take the 16750, but I'd get it serviced and get the hands and dial replaced with service parts (keeping the old ones for originality). After that, I'd wear it to death.

16710 for me too and you can change the Pepsi insert to coke and all black when you fee like. The inserts on 16710 easier to find.

Ouch....not a decision I would want to have to make but I think I would go with my head on this one and keep the 16710. Mostly because of functionality. I learned this with classic car ownership. The old ones are cool to look at but modern ones are easier to live with.

I think you'll regret letting either one of these beauties go.

However, if that's the way it is to be, I guess I would let the 16710 go, using the logic that it would be somewhat easier to replace (if not painful) than the older one.

I wouldn't worry about the tritium...I think it should last you until you can get the funds to re-acquire the 16710 and then you can re-evaluate then.

I would keep both if you can find a way. Either way you are going to miss one or the other down the road. I think if you take the 16750 to a good indy shop they can clean the hands for you and still leave you with that nice patina. If you keep the 16750, don't replace the dial or the hands!

Been in your shoes. I am wearing the 16710 and the 16750 has a great new home. The 16750 was a full set and Springer helped me find a home for it, as well as polishing the crystal and making it look just right. You’ll probably miss the ‘80s reference, but the more modern 16710 was right for daily wear, for me.

For daily you can’t go wrong with the 16710. What year is your 16750?

16710 for me. I don’t go for vintage, preferring new instead. Especially the lume.
