Is it worth it for solid gold?

Ok so I was in my usual grey dealer having a look tonight and to be honest the FC 44 isn’t floating my boat so to speak ... so.. while I was there I noticed he had a solid gold 44mm novelty in mint full set 2014
He proposed a deal to trade my FC and my sd4k +$4kusd
Now I really like the solid gold and it’s got heft but is this a good deal?

Is it worth that much more then my forged carbon?
The deal is in the table for 24hours only because he’s got a buyer for the sd4k now...
opionions guys? Am I gonna do my money on this?

I've seen RG 44s at around 32-33K, maybe even a bit less for a out of warranty 2014 model.

The SD4K is worth at least 9K or so, and with 4K in cash on top, the implied value of your FC 44 is about 19-20K. Not a good trade financially IMO.

But if the FC 44 is not knocking your socks off, you're right to move it along too.

oh ok? i havent found any RG44;s that cheap....average price i can find is about $37k ..... that would change the deal if they can be gotten that cheap
hes also go a brand new ceramic 44 that he'll swap the sd4k and the fc straight up.... its not that big a difference cosmetically in my book between the 2 to justify throwing the SD in just to get a ceramic body(albeit its brand new)

I would go for it, used prices of RG are higher here, £30K would be the price.

In the US the 2014 novelty RG's are running about 33-37K USD used from what I've seen and heard. FC is great but if it's not doing it for you and you can't take your eyes off the RG, it might be a willing move for you. I would try negotiating the additional cash on top if you are really ready to pull the trigger on this. My guess is that it could be had for less than $4K on top. Good luck!

Both the 44fc and the 44rg are killer pieces. However, I think the deal being offered is way too much in the dealers favour especially as he already has a buyer for the Rolex. Assuming that your watches are in top condition with B&P I think he should be giving you the $4k.

I’ve checked the usual suspects for used watch prices and in the U.K. there’s only about £4000 difference between the rose gold 44 and the F.C.

As always everyone has their own opinion. Here is mine. Your FC is worth around 20k on trade, your SDc is worth around 9k. Adding the 4 that puts you in at 33k for the RG and I think that makes it a fair deal.

There’s a big difference between what dealers ask for watches and what they are willing to buy them at. Try selling them yourself and you’ll quickly find out why.

From a deal with a dealer POV it’s about right IMO

But as always if you sold privately you’ll most likely work out not needing to add cash but this is the issue of timing and convenience Vs ultimate cost!

I can't really comment on the fairness nor acceptability of the pricing but personally I think the RG44 is way nicer than the 44FC. To be fair I've not owned an FC but I have handled one and I just feel the whole RG44 experience is better - the mix of the rose gold with black ceramic and white gold bezels screws a perfect combo!

I also prefer the original version of the RG44, but that is down to personal preference and bias!

It’s the original version with the cream/white subdials... I much prefer it as well to the new one

Numbers aside, I would also take a 44RG over the FC

seems like an ok deal. IMO the RG in whatever dial is the 44 to get. All are great, but that gets my vote every time.

There's nothing like gold. Sounds like a fair deal.

One thing to bear in mind is that gold really doesn’t suit everyone and I’m speaking from personal experience. I sold my rg Offshore because after a while I decided that it didn’t look as good on me as white metal. Gold APs are also quite noticeable and I personally didn’t like people staring at my watch.

Second this!

Seen the original RG44 in the past and thanks to Tyler & Chris I’ve managed to see the new RG44 and RG44 SE, I can admire them all but sadly just don’t suit me..

It's funny you say that as after wearing my full gold pieces I put this on yesterday and I thought there's really not much gold on it and like in my pic above it can wash out to look like SS, so if it weren't for the weight I would have my doubts about the price.

As others have stated, this is a very good and often overlooked point. I avoid gold for this reason -- I just don't think it looks good with my skin color. Beautiful watch, just not for me.

im sitting on the fence still........ ive got till the end of today to decide.... i think the cash changeover price is too much... the SD is going up in value right now and hes offering minimum on it
my concern is the RG is a 2014 (no warranty)and never been serviced my FC and SD are still both under warranty.......

if you are concerned about no warranty on the older RG, check to see if he has the Pt one as that one is ridiculously awesome too

I don't know, the dealer to me seems to have the advantage. You own good stuff.
