This Costco Infection is Spreading

So a little before Christmas I posted a pic of almost the same watch for sale at Costco in Cumming GA. Now today I’m at the one in Buford, GA and the price is jacked $1500 above the other one.

Now the only diff. I see is the one above is the gold leafed dial. The other one from last week was not (see below)

Not really a rant - just that this Xosco infection is spreading

They heard about Rolex shortages. I predict that in the UK people will call for an anti-Rolex hoarding law. I might as well start the rumor now.

It’s that Fitbit merger looming over us. The last Rolex without a secret fitness (or sloth) tracker will prolly fetch $15Million.

I don't see what the problem is here.

Everyone exalts the "trusted sellers," and disparages Costco.

They're doing the same thing, are they not?

If you're buying the seller, Costco would seem to be a solid choice.

Or is this about grey dealers in general?

Agree. I would imagine the top few gray market “trusted sellers” here probably sell more luxury watches than Costco in any given year. I go to a few of the Costco Stores by my house in a pretty affluent area of Indianapolis and I have never seen one. Just a couple Omega.

Paul I have 2 guesses. They operate off of margin and the margin is the same on every luxury watch they sell. So maybe they paid more for the top one.
Or, is that dial an up charge from the other on the msrp price list?

I really don’t understand the Costco posts. Is it so amazing that they have rolex in stock? I’m sure other stores do to so why is there a bit of a Costco thing going on in TRF? It’s seems we have one or two ”sightings” per month. Can anyone help explain why this is amazing as maybe I’m missing something.

I was going to say we shouldn't talk about rising prices here but it's too late to put Pandora back in her Box now, everyone knows.

Rolex at Costco??? I go to Costco weekly and have never seen one. Is it nationwide or just select locations? Pros and cons of going thru Costco vs. AD? Costco seems like a legit source.

I think Costco is a legit source just the same as a TRF seller.

It wasn’t a rant - more like a data blip. I had talked to both of those Costco managers in the past 2 years and they swore they’d never risk their jewelry margin plan with Rolex or Omega watches. They were keeping to the Tag and Breitling level to meet demand.

So my reference was to a Costco infection - meaning they were beginning to be susceptible to carrying higher end watches.

I think you are right. The gold dial is actual gold leaf and the other one is just paint. Like other exotic dials it must fetch a higher prices the watch at that first Costco sold in just a few days.

Costco prices stock according to how much it cost them. Not known to see one off items priced differently when they come in different times, even if item looks near identical.

Sams club had a bunch a few days ago. Made the shopping experience a bit less awful.

Sharp looking YMII; I'm glad my Costco doesn't sell any Rolex.

They're both marked 26 which are discontinued. One has a Jubilee dial.

It's unsettling to see ROLEX in the same vicinity of 15LB jars of Miracle Whip....

So much so that the sightings must be reported on TRF...

I can imagine some strange looks from those behind the lucky purchaser when the checkout person says "Sir, that will be 21,400 with tax."

I for one would ask that they at least put the watch in a separate bag. What if the Miracle Whip jar broke? Is a Rolex Miracle Whip resistant?

Costco has a no question return/refund policy on watches. You could buy one of these and wear it for a year and then return it for a full refund.

Find a trusted seller that does that.

This may be their policy, but I seriously question whether they would honor it on a 20k watch.

Especially if you tried to do this 2 years in a row.
