Happy New Year, everyone! So, I'm particularly fond of the rose gold, black lacquer Cellini - ref 50505 - but of course cannot stomach paying MSRP for it, which is around 15,000 USD. I've looked and looked and what I find online is somewhat bizarre. Essentially, everyone offering the piece for sale, be it gray market or pre-owned, wants something in the 9000-12000 USD range, but almost all the watch pricing aggregator sites swear that it's value is closer to 4000-8000 tops (NIB). I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out what's fair to offer to sellers...thoughts on this one?

Oh totally! I have certainly tried. I get the impression that people keep buying high and then grumpily selling low on these...

Ha! Understandably. I hate losing money! I assume nobody is taking your offers below the range you posted above then? Perhaps this is the difference between a dealer sale and an individual sale? In other words an individual price will be higher to account for markup from a dealer whose price is in the lower range you found?

The sales aggregation site data seems suspect. How can a NIB watch have a value of $4000 when MSRP is more than $15000? That is less that Rolex sells it to the dealers. While not popular, the value has not fallen that far. I can see the value being between $8000 for pre-owned and $12000 for NIB, but I cannot see the value being less than $8000 for a NIB sample.

Its a nice looking watch, but for that money... You can find a MUCH cooler dressy watch with leather band than this. Where do I begin? IWC, Breitling, Hamilton, Omega, etc etc etc

Yes i have some thoughts.
First and foremost.
You have a golden opportunity to learn the reality of many things with this exercise that will hold you in good stead for the rest of your life.

To be more specific.
Don't pay too much attention to most of the information you scoop up off the internet. It's a virtual world.
Also the market value is what you will pay at the end of the day after you have exhausted all your time and energy chasing this dream.
Whether it's a fair price or not will be determined in the fullness of time in your own mind.
