Newbie hello and a question
Hello, been reading/researching on the forum a while and thought it was about time to say hello. A wealth of information and clearly some really knowledgeable people on here. I am based in Australia and currently hunting for a Sea-Dweller 43mm and was looking for a little advice. I have contacted about every dealer in the country (and some overseas) and they are all quoting extensive waiting lists. My question is should I wait it out or pay a (pretty big) premium through, say one of the dealers on chrono24? Aside from the price any other drawbacks from buying from a non-authorized dealer in terms of warranty etc? Thanks very much.

Welcome aboard!
Why not buy from one of the trusted dealers here?

I would suggest you trying the watch before you make the purchase.
Sometimes, we think it looks great, when you wear it you may not like it. For my case, l loved RG, because of the skin color, it doesn’t look good on my wrist. Sometimes, we think this is the model you want, when you see other models you may change your mind. My friend wanted to buy a TT Submariner and end up he bought the TT Daytona. Since you are going to spend so many money on a watch, why not going out to see any other choices. |

Thanks guys, i have tried one on so definitely set on that particular model. I was just concerned about any warranty implications of buying from non Ad as well as authenticity.

Ok great
So to keep it simple, if you're not having any luck at your local AD or Boutiques just buy it from a TS on this forum and take it on the chin. Best of luck with the hunt |

Where in Australia are you? I was recently in the CBD and saw a few smaller boutiques that had watches like the hulk for sale which are quite hard to find, they did look new, however these were just visible from the window which i saw when i walked past, however im not sure if they have the SD43 that you're after.
If you're in Sydney, let me know and ill try and find out what the store was for you. |

Welcome. It’s a great watch but I wouldn’t pay over MSRP for it. Keep looking for one. There’s no rush.

Hi Robert & welcome to TRF.
It is my understanding that the warranty follows the watch. So in theory, the watch could be sold on 2 or 3 times in its first 5 years, but as long as the current owner has the original warranty card supplied with the watch, there shouldn't be any issues at any AD worldwide. To be perfectly honest, the chances of you having an issue with a brand new Rolex in the first 5 years are pretty slim, but obviously not impossible, so I wouldn't stress too much about it. Although I am not a great fan of grey dealers, all I would say is, if you find the right watch at the right price and your happy with the deal go for it - just remember to always 'Buy the seller' - some pretty sad stories here on TRF from members being ripped of by unscrupulous types on eBay etc - just be careful is all I'm saying. Obviously I'm sure your aware with the SD43 you will be paying a pretty hefty premium for the pleasure of owning it now rather than waiting for one through your local AD, but hey, your money, your choice. Hope this helps Regards Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

+1, also make sure to try before you buy. Go to the Rolex dealer and look around with an open mind, your choice may change.

For a ss sport model, I don’t see any downsides for buying from trusted sellers here on TRF. ADs would never be able to get close to the discounts possible from them!

Try TSs but I have a principle. Get it for MSRP (or lower) or wait for supply to become available again!
Paying over MSRP is unreasonable to me! |

As another respondent has correctly stated. Supply here is worse than the UK. Frankly, my assesment of the OP's situation is that without a prior relationship with an AD or Boutique he has no hope in hell unless he can score a watch from a grey here or elsewhere. He also could marry the offspring of the AD or Boutique. Alternately he has to try his luck with getting on the eternally pliable list at his local AD or Boutique. Especially one where he can pay all of the purchase price up front or at least a very sizeable deposit to show he is serious. |
