Watch is loose on wrist all of sudden

Hey all.

First post but have lurked for a while. I have a Black Sub with no date. It's got the ceramic bezel with the folding safety clasp. My wife bought it for me as a gift a couple of years ago while she was in Geneva. I've worn it everyday ever since. Love it.

So yesterday I noticed the watch is much looser on my wrist. I can spin it around on my wrist. At first I thought it was in my head but it's been driving me nuts all day today. I went so far as to weigh myself to see if maybe in lost weight. Nope. Steady at 192 pounds. It seems like it's about a half link looser.

I remembered that while hunging my wife the day before yesterday, I heard a snap from my watch. Like the clasp engaged. Thought nothing of it but now I think maybe the clasp adjustment moved.

Is it possible that the clasp adjustment moved?

Is this easy to adjust back?

Can you direct me to online instructions how to?

Thanks for the help.

Does yours have the "easy-link"? Perhaps it just released from inside the clasp and gave you an additional half link. Look at youtube videos of how it works and you will be able to close it again.

Your wrist can swell or contract based on the weather meaning it could just be cold. However, you mentioned you've had it a couple years so you should be familiar with that type of change. You should be able to look inside the clasp and see if the glide lock moved. It is easy to adjust and you can google a video on how to use it.

Watch is loose on wrist all of sudden

A friend had a similar experience while we were at a race. He asked me to look at it. I saw nothing wrong with the clasp or links. But then I looked at the end links and one spring bar had failed and a pin worked loose from the lughole. The bracelet was actually held by only one pin on that springbar and some lucky geometry.

Had he not mentioned it, it might’ve ended up in the bottom of his Formula Atlantic during a race (not a good thing).

Maybe check all parts of the bracelet to see if something had worked loose?

BOOM! Thanks Swatty!

It is the Glide Lock mechanism. I must have inadvertantly disengaged it the night before when I took it off to sleep. Then when I hugged my wife, the snap I heard was it locking in place. I can actually see the slight wear mark on the edge of the bracelet where it had been set before.

I guess I should be more familiar with how this all works but the damn watch is so reliable I've never had to worry about anything.

Thanks for the help guys. Truly appreciate it. You almost saved me a trip to the AD. Almost because now that I've been looking at my watch so closely I can see it needs a good steaming.

By the way... My father wanted one all of his life but never had the means to afford one. After he passed about 10 years ago I considered getting a Rolex as kind a homage piece to him. I have been fortune to have enough success to afford a Rolex. However, I've never been one to wear jewelry.

As I said, my wife surprised me with the Sub. I put it on and fell in love instantly. I wear it everyday. Whether I'm at the office, in the garage, surfing or hiking. It's amazing how durable this watch is and how versatile it is. I can dress it up or down. And I am equally amazed at how many people notice it on my wrist and compliment it.

I am now looking to buy my second Rolex. Another sub but this time the blue 2 tone. Another iconic Rolex IMO. Anyone regular guy lurking and considering a Rolex that may be reading this... JUST BUY THE DAMN WATCH ALREADY!!!

Thanks swatty. It was the glide lock that moved. Adjusted it back. All good now.

Thanks everyone for chiming in with suggestions.

After reading the initial post, my instinct is Glidelock and hit the nail. Glad it work out for you.

It’s ultra reliable watch and will last you few generations.

For sure. It will stay with me until I can pass it on to someone else.

We only have one child, a daughter. It's hers if she wants it. She will get my wife's for sure. If not, it will be passed on to her child if she decides to have them. She is almost 26 and no plans yet so we shall see.

Or it I will gift it to my Godson. Hopefully by that time though, I will have a few and I don't have to neglect any of them. Haha

I’m glad you worked it out. As far as “steaming” your watch, I’d suggest that you clean it with warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush. Make sure the crown is screwed shut first.
Good luck with your second purchase. They truly are amazing watches....

My wife bought me 116618LB (Sub, YG, Blue dial) back in November while we were in Hawaii. I wanted a Rolex all of my life. This watch hasn’t come off my wrist except once in last 8 weeks. I just love it. The dial changes colors in the light and I love the yellow gold. Is it flashy? Yes. It is also stunning. I am really happy it isn’t a TT or a SS. The watch is casual and dressy at the same time.

I have looked at a couple of Day Dates’s since then. But they just don’t hold a candle the the watch I now call Blue Hawaii. I think it is great that you love the watch you spouse bought you just as I love the watch my spouse bought me.
