maybe a stupid question
so i bought my SS sub date in Dec. and i have read a few times on here about how fast the date changes on the new rolexs and what not.
so on new years i thought it would be cool to film in the date change at midnight in slow-mo, well i did just that but my date did not change at midnight i waited 30 or so secs before i gave up and then popped the crown thinking maybe somehow i screwed up and set it wrong but as soon as i popped my crown the date changed. i have had no problems with this watch at all... its been a champ runs -1 sec a day im very happy. just wondering if it should be changing the date at midnight or not? thanks Mike |

There should be some range of when it changes and may not be at exactly 00:00.00. Not sure what that acceptable range is though.

All my older Rolex watches clicked over within a few seconds of Midnight. None of my 3(latest purchases of) Rolex watches are this good and they change anywhere up to about 2.75 minutes after Midnight. |

My (highly educated and brilliant) wife struggled with this on her Tudor for several days before coming to me for help. It was pretty amusing. I’ve never watched any of my dates change. Now you have me worried. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Give or take a few minutes. Depends how the hands are set on the watch. Non issue imho

I watched my one month old BLNR switch over for the first time on NYE. It clicked in around 2.5 minutes after midnight. I believe I’ve read that 5 minutes either way is considered within tolerances.

do a search on forum and you’ll see this has been discussed in detail before...many times over.

I've watched many (vintage) DateJusts and Day Dates make the change and all but one did it withing 1/2 minute either side of midnight...and never more than that. The DD is the most fun because they both execute the change over bullet fast and in complete sync.

I'm sleeping at that time. Never occurred to me to pay any attention.

Yep! Between my wife and myself we have owned about 12 Rolexes. Her current one, a Lady DJ, is the only one that changes exactly at midnight. A few seconds or even minutes is not uncommon. No worries....enjoy your watch.

There is no such thing as a range or tolerance for a watch switching over (give or take the accuracy of the watch). If you really must have it flip at midnight then take it to a watchmaker who will pop off the hands and reapply them at exactly the moment the day/date flips. Should this have been done at the factory? Sure but it’s people applying the hands and sometimes we’re less than accurate.

I heard hand placement can impact the date change. Ironically, my oldest Rolex (1977) date changes within 15 seconds of midnight, kind of cool.

It's a non-issue for me, but if it is for you, take it to a good watchmaker for the fix.

What about one that changes a little early, say 10:30pm?

My 1803 can be very slow to change. Most of mine are +/-3 mins.

I haven't checked my DJ or my BLNR in quite some time, but they don't change exactly at midnight.
My 1503 Date, which I bought a couple of weeks ago, changes at two minutes after midnight. This is not an issue for me, although I can see that it might bother some.
