Why do you wear a watch...???
I have been wearing a watch for about 50 years...
When I was a boy my parents bought me my first watch... A Timex... Not because it was fashionable, but so I would know the time... Today I would be lost without my watch... Partly, I'm sure, due to habit...But mostly because I actually use it... You...??? |

I wear a wristwatch so I can quickly check the time/day/date without getting my phone out of my pocket...so essentially for the same reason someone would wear a wristwatch 70 years ago.
What other reasons are there?? |

I wear a Rolex
I don't wear just a watch I wear a Rolex, .......
For me being able to tell the time is foremost important with the ever hectic lifestyle that I now live, I was also a Timex kid and was scared to wear it in case it broke ........, which it inevitably did, in the 80's friends and I talked about buying a Rolex until it was discovered how much they cost , now that I do own one I see its as a mark of distinction and also a measure of my own success and the challenges that I've overcome. |

Right here! To show people those five incredible letters.
TIMEX In reality, I wear a watch to tell the time and I wear a mechanical watch because in a ever increasing shift towards digital technology, it's nice to have something personal that is not. The passage of time marked by physical force is special. At least to me. |

always had a wristwatch ever since I was a little boy (timex, casio, seiko...) even though I only got my first mechanical watch for my 40th birthday (an omega but currently just a rolex explorer 36mm) - as for the why I use a wristwatch I guess first it was out of habit, but as of late because I fell in love with mechanical watches.

Habitual watch wearer for near 60 years (first was a Westclox); I usually use them to tell the time. Can't imaging not wearing one.

I started wearing one when I joined the Army in 1991. No cell phones in those days (man did I sound old just now). So knowing the time and being on time was hugely important. I just got used to wearing a watch. Always wore Timex or Casios. When my last Casio died a few years ago I started looking for a nicer watch. Was into Victorinox for a couple of months, but then I found the forum. Same old story from there. Once you spend any time on here, you're hooked. Been wearing Rolex ever since!
My grandfather always wore a Rolex - usually a Blusey or a Day-Date and I just assumed they were way out of my price range. Once I started looking into though, I realized they are expensive, but really a good value for what you get. Not a day goes by that I don't admire the Rolex on my wrist. |

Primarily to tell time at a glance
Beyond that, I choose to wear mechanical time pieces because I’ve always been intrigued by these tiny little machines that can be worn on our wrists. It still amazes me that accurate time can be kept by these incredible watches. Lastly, I appreciate and value the craftsmanship that goes into building mechanical watches. They are an extension of a long standing tradition that goes back centuries, and to me that’s kind of cool |

These days, it’s pretty easy to tell the time. It’s on your phone, computers, etc. However I find the wristwatch is still the easiest way to discreetly check the time. It also is portable and doesn’t require a recharge.

I have been fascinated with wristwatches as early as can remember. When I was 5, I broke my nose while playing outside, and at the hospital I asked my dad for the 'Yogi and Boo Boo watch' I had seen in a display window near his office some time earlier.. I see my watch as more of a life companion than a time telling tool... Yes, I use it to tell time, but it is so much more than just that, to me -my watch tells my story... And since discovering Rolex 30 some years ago, I haven't gone a day without proudly wearing one

my grandparents got me my first watch (Timex) back in the late fifties and in 1967 for my first communion they again bought me my first 'good' watch , a 17 jewel Rodaina , which I still have and runs beautifully to this day.
My Grandfather was an Horologist, my dad a railroader, so watches have been a part of my life forever. |

I wear a watch, so that the time is always conveniently located on my left arm.

I need a mechanical watch on my wrist. It can not be of quartz, and the reason is my admiration for that mechanical instrument, precise, almost perfect, lasting, reliable (that's why Rolex), beautiful, that without batteries or energy, but pieces that move in reason of weights and counterweights , automatically, to give something as necessary as the time! It is something romantic and makes me admire the human being an his eternal espirit!

After wearing a watch for over 40 years (to know the time) I feel pretty much naked without one.

Aside from the obvious "to know what time it is", I appreciate the hundreds of years of advancements in mechanical engineering, science and technology that watches represent.
I know digital is the present and the future and I love technology as well. But there is something soulful about mechanical things. I feel the same about old automobiles, pre-CGI movies, tube amplifiers, pre Pro Tools and Auto-Tune recordings, etc... |

I’m sure I could get by without a watch, and I could wear a Casio if all I wanted to do was tell the time. I’ve been interested in watches my whole life, and mechanicals for at least the last 30 years. Wearable engineering and art is why I own them today. Telling the time is a useful bonus!

Interesting question. I grew up using one to tell time. The newer generation start out with Ele devices before they're 5. I increasingly see people switching to "Apple" type wrist devices. The wrist devices are going to pose some interesting challenges for watch makers.

Why, to tell the time of course! Much more convenient than fumbling for a phone, especially in the middle of the night, and much less conspicuous in meetings etc.

I started wearing watches as a kid, primarily to tell the time but I confess to owning a calculator watch... always dreamed of owning a Rolex for the name but never really thought I would want to spend the money.... I got a mechanical watch 5-7 years ago to avoid batteries but they were cheaper and didn't last... I also considered mid-range (compared to a Rolex) but once I really did the research I couldn't resist... especially since it's piece I can hand down to my son someday... there aren't many things that last long enough for that.
