An Authentic Style Watch Strap that Never Quite Caught On

The NASA-inspired velcro watch strap is similar to a NATO but one rarely sees them worn on Omega Speedmasters or Rolex sports models.

Overpriced or simply based on an aversion to velcro?

After about a month of constant use Velcro gets all fuzzy and looks like crap, plus it doesn't do well getting wet. That would be my guess as to why it didn't catch on.

I really like the look, but the points Brandon stated would put me off.

That's an outrageous price for a Velcro strap, regardless of what's printed on it.

Do you know how many Velcros had to give their lives to make that strap?
Shame on you!

It looks good though. I would get one of these for my Damasko.

Looks much better than the Dumbo-ear Nato and Zulu straps.

Looks ok I guess but tang is my choice for securing a strap.

I make these (so I am partial!), but one problem with other Velcro-type straps is that used exclusively retail-sourced Velcro (not US Mil-Spec). This new stuff is incredibly hard wearing and fray resistant.

For those who want the vintage look and feel, they also come in 1970's mil spec, which has a whole different look and feel. But I make no special claims for how good those are, I simply commit to follow the NASA specs 100% and they were only qualified for a 3 week round trip to the moon inside a capsule, with a few hours extravehicular activity thrown in.

I prefer NATO straps for the security of knowing BOTH springbars would have to fail to lose the watch. I see no advantage for this type of strap (other than supreme adjustability) over a bracelet or even leather strap.

With many NATOs, the springbar in the buckle is a single point of failure. If made cheaply, probably not gone through any meaningful Quality Control like an OEM springbar.
