New Rolex Stickers
Hi looking for some advice please.
I am collecting a new piece this evening to add to my collection and am very excited. I really want to try and keep it as new, but the dealer will not release the watch with the stickers on. They are saying that this is a Rolex rule. Is this true. I have never had this with PP or Tudor , but this is the first new Rolex that I have purchased in a long time Thx Scott |

It has been reported before and I think it is a "rule" of the specific AD and not of Rolex headquaters because there are a lot of new watches for sale at grey dealers with the stickers still on the watch.

This is a practice that some UK AD's have adopted but not all. It is a policy that the AD's have implemented rather than Rolex themselves, intended to prevent flipping of popular SS Sports models (not entirely successfully!).
Personally I'd prefer to take the stickers off myself but I'd let them if it meant I got the watch I wanted. Post pics when you get it! |

My guess is that the AD is throwing Rolex under the bus. I don't think Rolex really cares.
However there has been a lot of talk that Rolex wants to clamp down on the grey market ( non AD brand new in box resales. ) Making you remove the stickers lessons the incentive to resale as the profit would dip out the door. ADs have been known to fudge the truth and Rolex is historically and notoriously secretive. |

New Rolex Stickers
Talking to my local AD earlier this week and they were saying that it is an instruction from Rolex that they remove stickers and retain the Warranty Card. They went on to say that Rolex now audit their performance in this respect and will remove AD status if they are not doing as they are told.
If true, it seems to me a very arrogant approach from Rolex to try and address the booming secondary market created by the imbalance between supply and demand in some areas. This is particularly strange when in some areas there is no shortage of supply and SS sports models sit in AD windows for weeks unsold. One possible explanation could be that Rolex are reducing supply to those markets where prices are lower - such as the UK where the £ remains weak against say the € or $ - in order to maintain global price points and simultaneously restrict supply into the grey market. Either way, it's a major brand turn off for me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I can’t speak for your area and AD vs Rolex, but my AD let’s me walk out with stickers intact and I get the joy of peeling of the stickers and the pain of the knowledge that I find one that I missed a couple days later despite my best efforts. Always one that hides...

It is and has been a newer policy by Rolex USA (can’t speak to other countries) and clearly some AD's follow and some don't. The risk is of course Rolex finds out and the AD loses his status.

My local AD (Spain, Madrid) wanted to :
- remove the stickers - size the bracelet - keep the green tag - keep the price tag - keep the bezel protector The salesperson insisted on removing the stickers and I said no on several occasions. It was almost amusing. He let it go in the end. He offered to size the bracelet twice, to which I also refused. He withheld the green tag but agreed to give it back. He kept the price tag and absolutely refused to hand it over. This was not negotiable. His words were "I could be in serious trouble with Rolex if I let you go with the price tag." He also kept the bezel protector claiming "we always bin them". He did offer to open the bottle of champagne though or provide any other drink, good man :-). |

You'll find some insight on the subject in my thread here https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=571648 There is no official Rolex policy in the UK (yet) on destickering. It is very much up to the individual AD's to use whatever measures they feel appropriate on a case by case basis to protect their agency. The ADs are now looking to sell certain references only to people who will actually keep and wear the watch. There will be different conditions applied to different purchasers. If you're not known well to the AD, for example, expect to have to make more concessions, than if you are HTH

I have a Dblue and love it as well, but definitely only wear on weekends or a day or two at a time. The SD43 could easily be. A daily wearer for me Can’t wait to see your pictures |

I can sort of understand Rolex's thought process on this (if it is actually a real mandate). That said, I can't think of one item that you can purchase, let alone something that costs 5 figures, that the retailer tells you what they are going to let you keep. I think I might be inclined to find another retailer on principle alone.

Not according to Rolex UK Bas. It's at the AD's discretion (and risk)

Its a great watch and an easy daily wear. Definately one on the de-sticker list as its so hard to get in the UK just now. Its easily my favourite of the watches i've owed over the years and to me the perfect Rolex diver. You'll soon get used to the cyclops and forget that a Sea Dweller "shouldn't have one"

From three different AD's in Bangkok, kept all hang tags, stickers and bezel protector (if it was a sport model). And we have not resold any of these watches.

What about the rule bothers you? If you want to remove them yourself, then just ask if you can be the one to do so at the time of pickup.

I personally love removing the stickers from a new Rolex. It’s a right of passage and let’s me have some quiet focus time on every part of my new watch. I went through two of these rituals with two new Rolex models this year and loved every minute of it.

I bought mh GMT C from a London AD late last year and I had the pleasure of removing the stickers myself when I got home on my own time. Good luck. In any case congrats on your new purchase!
