Buying First Rolex. Q's?

Hi everyone. I have wanted a Rolex for years and have finally decided its time, I figure its a nice early b-day gift to myself. I was considering the Milgauss with the black face. I was trying to locate a Green Quartz but they say its near impossible to find at an Authorized Dealer. Does anyone have a Milgauss? Any feed back or opinions. Is it worth it, or would a Submariner be better for a first time Rolex buy? One of the things I like about it is they say they are hard to come by? Is that true or more of a sales gimmick? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

In my opinion there are only three considerations for choosing your first Rolex: 1) what can you afford? 2) what do you already have in your watch stable? 3) and the most important question.............what do you really like? Good luck in your decision.

To answer your question its not really hard to buy a milgauss gv..look at our buy and sell forum there are a lot of people selling it there...2nd whats your budget?? if its a tight budget you can never go wrong with subs and any sports models...but i will go for the GV IMO....It will be your first Rolex that you will never forget...enjoy your stay!!!

IMO you will find a GV fairly easily.

It is a very special Rolex.

It's a sales gimmick; although it's not sitting in every case, the GV does pop up pretty regularly. No modern Rolex is rare, so buy what looks best.

Get the one that looks best to you, is within your budget and therefore makes you happy. There's nothing worse than spending that kind of money on a watch because others have advised you to, only to find that it wasn't really what you wanted and that you should have gone for something else.

The GV is a beautiful watch. Then again so is the sub.

This "first Rolex" thing is a little bit of a myth....you don't have to work your way up, it's your money my friend, buy the nicest watch you can afford.

If you really want a GV and "make do" with a Sub, you'll probably still end up buying the GV.

Get what your heart desires.

Hi Inv7 ... Don't listen to them !!!! The GV is VERY HARD to get from an AD. Yes you can buy them all day long from other sources etc but to actuallly buy from an AD is extremely hard. Most AD's have only had a few each and I can assure you every AD has a list of customers waiting their turn!!!
People on this forum aren't the usual Rolex buyers. We are constantly looking in shops etc so when we see a watch that shouldn't be there due to it's rariety we always remember that and it may cloud our memory as to the amount of other times that watch hasn't been available.

to add i think there is a vast difference between the american market and the british market... that is supply and demand... watches over there pond seem plentiful compared to over here... i am still waiting for a sub no date which i ordered over 4 weeks ago!
