Oyster or Jubilee

Good day fellas, I am looking to get the ROLEX 41 two tone with chocolate dial. i

I currently own a DATEJUST II two tone 18k with ivory dial and ever since I saw the newer 41 with chocolate dial its been on my mind, sooo I think I would like to pull the trigger and trade in mine for the newer model.

The question I have are pros and cons to the bracelet "oyster vs jubilee"

When I first saw the chocolate dial with jubilee bracelet I was all over it and my personal opinion on that is I really wished they had the full jubilee band with hidden clasp and I waited a little bit to see if ROLEX would offer the an updated band but, I don't think thats going to happen.

So now I am torn between the two choices. I know I know its personal preference but, for those with the newer 41 models with both bands I was hopping to get some options and comments.

Some people have told me that the the jubilee will stretch out faster than the oyster band but, I thought with the links being solid now that that should not matter and they would stretch the same. I think the jubilee band gives the datejust 41 a more formal and classy look while the oyster offers a the same but with a sport look if you will.

I say keep what you have and get the jubilee on the new one. I too waited for the jubilee on the DJII. Then came the DJ41 with the oyster clasp. I thought they missed the boat until I put my first one on. Now I own two.

For a Datejust the jubilee was my only option. The bracelet is very comfortable and looks amazing. But you will be happy either way

I agree with you that oyster bands are more casual/sporty and jubilee more formal.

For me I have subs with oyster bracelets, so I would definitely get the DJ on jubilee and wear it when I was wearing a dress shirt and save my Subs for more casual wear.

Since it sounds like it is your only watch, I would base my decision on what you wear on a typical day. Are you normally in a pair of jeans? Then I would do oyster. Are you more often wearing a button down and slacks? Jubilee.

Oysters get SCRATCHED TO HELL very quickly.

Four weeks in the case of my Sub, compared to the DJ36 on jubilee I'd worn daily for 15 YEARS!!

The jubilee is very clever at reflecting the light in all directions due to its small rounded links whereas the oyster's larger flat links show off scratches horribly.

When my wife and I both went to buy new DJs last summer the AD showed us a 2 year old oyster on a trade in. That cemented my wife's choose to go jubilee again. I had already decided never to buy another oyster.

Same goes for fluted over smooth bezel. Fluted doesn't show the scratches, smooth does.

Here's my old DJ36 after 15 years wear, never serviced or polished. The crystal is beat up, but the bezel and bracelet looked perfect...




As for the clasp. My DJ36 had a clasp so I didn't worry about it being hidden, as it is on my wife's DJ31. Also, the 5mm easy link extension has turned out to be a useful feature when my wrist swells. Most of the time the clasp is away from view so if it DOES concern you at least it won't be staring you or others in the face.

Oh... and having worn both, the jubilee's extra flex makes it the more comfortable whilst still having solid links.

I prefer the Jubilee bracelet. Different enough on the DJ41. On the sport models the oyster bracelet.

DJ with a jubilee is pretty classic. Both oyster and jubilee look fantastic though. Good luck with the decision!

DJ41 is a refined watch meant to be worn on a jubilee bracelet with fluted bezel.

End of Story. Buy an oyster bracelet for your sports watch. DJ 41 is for dress.

Worried about stretch? People say you should wear it as tight as you can and you won't have stretch.

I learned you can send any bracelet to Michael Young in Asia and he'll bring it back to brand new condition and the prices are ridiculously affordable.

If the bezel is smooth, then Oyster; if the bezel is fluted, then Jubilee.

You can discount those people's opinions as they know nothing about watches.

I like the jubilee option especially in a collection heavy in oysters, for some variety. It's also a very comfortable bracelet...one of the most comfortable that I've tried. Feels like absolute silk on the wrist.

However, it comes down to preference. Try a few on back to back with your DJ2 and see which one jumps out at you. Good luck,

The super jubilee bracelets are nice but I really like the new jubilee bracelet with the easylink clasp because the "old" jubilee bracelets also had a clasp.

I have the jubilee band on mine and I love it. The best part is it is adjustable. On hot days I simply adjust the clasp to loosen and on cooler days I tighten it.
