World Time

See Sun @ World Time on Stevens Creek Blvd near Westfield shopping center. He is very knowledgeable on Rolex. If you are in SF go the the RSC above Shreve and Co and see Giovanni. (Who is now an independent)

I would buy the seller. If he/she is unknown and/or the price is too good to be true...be careful. Keep in mind I have talked to very well known ADs that handled fake watches and didn't even know until they went to service.

Better thing to do would be to call the AD that sold the watch (on the warranty card) and see if they can verify that the serial on the watch is confirmed as the one they sold.

Correct

"Keep in mind I have talked to very well known ADs that handled fake watches and didn't even know until they went to service."

This is true. That is why I did not recommend going to an AD and asking a sales person to verify.

Both are very good at what they do.

Son at World Time would be your best bet in San Jose area.

Great advice here, especially with the too good to be true part. Yesterday there was a 16710 Pepsi gmt being advertised on local Craig’s list here in SF Bay Area which reeked of scam, the price was unreasonably low for the description.

I saw that too. The same guy was listing a 16700 for a price too good to be true. I contacted him by email and he responded but when I gave him my number he never called. Flaky people, fakes, and scammers on CL, who knew?

Another option for verification is Jason at the Tick Tock Shop in Santa Clara.

Can’t you take it to Davidson & Licht at Valley Fair, or Joe Escobar off Hamilton and 17? They are both AD’s and get a appraisal, it might cost you now but I’d rather pay upfront and have it properly appraised then not.

Curious. Can a Rolex (or any other high-end brand) be authenticated without having to remove the back? One would think that an inspection would be required being that even some of the 'non-authentic' movements are often pretty similar in appearance.

If so, then gaskets + pressure testing would be required all over again.

The problem is you don’t know if EVERY part is genuine. The crystal could be after market. The hands could be aftermarket. Screws, links, stems, etc. that’s why I won’t buy without very clearly documented history.

World Time

If Sun was to opem the back, he would perform a pressure test. As would any qualified mechanic.

World time. I had my watch serviced by him, he's factory trained and pricing is reasonable. I'd have all my Rolex serviced by him but not by some US RSC's

It should definitely be a Rolex watchmaker, not just a sales person at an AD. I got stuck with a fake 116613LN. I got my money back by filing a claim through paypal, but it was a stressful time.

The owner of the AD, who has many, many years of experience, was unable to tell me if it was a fake by just looking at the outside. Their Rolex certified watchmaker removed the back, and then it was obvious.

A second AD in my area would not even attempt to authenticate, saying the fakes are getting too good these days. They will only send to RSC to authenticate.
