Basel 2018 Platinum Sub

Out of curiosity how many of you would be interested in the release of a Platinum Sub this year? This is my grail and I want to imagine its going to be released at some point “soon”. I’m imagining it with that dull red face that’s been posted on the forum before. No doubt the price will be steep but how steep?? $65-75k? I think this would be the only watch that could make me part with my Smurf. Oh well, I’m normally disappointed in the Basel releases so I’m hoping for a surprise this year. If not, I will just continue to enjoy my Smurf because IMHO it’s the perfect watch for a guy that wears the same shirt, shorts and flip flops every single day! I’ve been approached only on a single occasion from a fellow WIS who said “nice watch, really nice watch”. I like the whole stealth thing with this watch and I imagine the Platinum Sub will be the same.

Not gonna happen but you can always dream. I see no feasible reason for Rolex to make a platinum Sub. Price point would be too high and the Sub is already available in Steel, Yellow Gold and White Gold. What more do you need?

I’d imagine at some point this will happen. I’d love one myself. But I would think there’d have be an anniversary, or some sort of submariner celebration/event for this to happen

Here's what I'd love to see: A platinum Sub (ice blue dial, obviously) in a 5-digit size case!

A throwback / homage to days of old with platinum panache!

DONE and DONE!

You could say the same thing for the Daytona and Day-Date (sans steel), and those lines have a platinum version.

If it happened, I would think it would have an ice blue dial. Bezel color... I don't know. The easy guess would be brown like the daytona, but I bet it would look great with a matching ice blue ceramic bezel.

Or a dark/deep blue bezel.

That would be nice but your smurf is perfect for the reasons you stated!

It'd be epic, but I doubt it'll happen until some very special anniversary or unless they find a deeper part of the ocean to dive too

I think a platinum sub with a red ceramic bezel would be cool.

Indeed, a platinum GMT would be cool too! Maybe that's how the Coke version will be packaged. Cheers!

What colour is the bezel going to be is the question.

A solid dark navy blue cerachrom bezel with platinum filled markings might be a nice offset to a ice blue dial. Not personally keen on chocolate brown as that's reserved for the Platona. Look forward to others suggestions. Cheers!

Platinum Daytona was created as a tribute to Paul Newman with the dial and bezel colors. Blue dial for his blue eyes. Brown bezel for his brown hair.

I think steering clear of icy blue all together (even though I like it) and going a totally different direction (ie red) would be amazing. Anything “blue” might too closely resemble the Smurf and a Sub crafted in Platinum needs to distinguish itself.

Brown if they want to keep it in line with the Daytona

IMHO it won't happen. I just can't see Rolex releasing a platinum sub. If they do, great! But it's far, far out of my pay grade. I'd be happy for those who want it though.

The Platnium GMT is being worked on, its close to be being rolled off the line.. it's coming with a Coke Bezel and brushed links. They've fixed red color of the bezel too

I remember this was mentioned in a review I read from ablogtowatch.....I looked again and see that it was a personal opinion......could be a good coincidence.
