Boston area service recommendation?

Hi all-
I'm approaching the process of sending my watch in for service. It's a 1988 168000 that I bought new and likely will send it off to Rolex as I have in the past. I was considering having them replace the bezel insert as there is missing paint on the top of the triangle near the pearl from some kind of 'encounter' over the years. It's not that big of a deal, but since I'm going to the trouble and expense it would be nice to have the watch looking it's best for the next 30 years.

After spending some time here and learning a great deal, I've concluded that maybe it's best to replace the insert prior to sending it off as I'm told that Rolex doesn't return the original parts and I'd like to keep the original insert.

I've been poking around and while I haven't found one yet, expect that at some point I may be able to find a period correct replacement. I think I understand the differences in the number font, i.e.- old to new style, especially in the '4' shape, so will keep an eye on that.

I've called the store where I originally purchased the watch as well as a few other 'authorized' shops asking if they would do the replacement. They've all said, "NO"- the watch has to go to Rolex. I assume that there's some kind of agreement between the company and the retailers that precludes them from servicing even something as small as this, but obviously that's just speculation.

So, I'm hoping to find someone locally that (presuming I can find the correct insert) can do the replacement on site. YT has videos showing the procedure, but I'd rather not do it personally.

Anyway, recommendations sought and any other insight appreciated!

There are a few independent watchmakers on this site that have a parts account with Rolex. You could try contacting them to see what they can do for you, and their service coasts are usually far below Rolex service costs. And they should return parts to you if you ask. You would just need to ship the watch out to them.

You might want to give Haris at USA Watch Service in Dover, NH a buzz. It's about 1 hour outside of Boston. I have taken all my rolex's to Haris for servicing. He is actually certified by Rolex. He might be able to help you. If you want more details shoot me a PM.

Cheers!

Long's in Burlington has a Rolex trained watchmaker. I'd give them a call.

Thanks for the input, very helpful. I'll try to track down Haris and have a conversation.

And fwiw, Long's was the first call I made, though not the Burlington store. I'll give them a call as well. I'll be curious if not replacing parts on site is a store wide policy or simply the one that I spoke with.

Precision Watch Works LLC in Boston Jewelers Exchange Building. They have Rolex parts account and do amazing work. I currently have two GMTs there for services.
