Submariner vs Explorer
I am deciding between the Sub or an Explorer I and a Tudor Heritage BB. I visited my local AD yesterday and I tried on both watches. Yes the AD had a Sub available for sale, actually he said it has been sitting there for about a month now.
The Explorer I is a very nice watch but the Sub was an awesome watch and the price difference was only $1200. The AD gave me the Rolex Magazine with the Sub cover, haven't been able to put it down. I will wait till I try the Tudor Heritage Black Bay and then make a decision on whether to buy a Sub only or the Explorer I and the Tudor BB. My main point is...the choice isnt going to be an easy one. |

As an only watch I’d vote for sub date

Sub for sure!! There’s a reason why the explorers have been sitting at the cases while the sub is hard to come buy! It’s the better watch imho

It all depends on what you'll use it for and wear it with.
Generally a Sub would be better, unless you want it to double as a dressier watch. You can't go wring with either...

Get the Sub. You’ll always second guess yourself if you don’t.

I just was down to those 2 choices and went with the Explorer. I'm very happy with that choice.

Between the two, I would choose the Explorer, but I can’t tell you what to do. Buy whichever makes you happier.
I wouldn’t even consider the Tudor if the other two watches are an option. |

I had the same question once, Sub or Explorer. I bought the Explorer and love it.
Why do you also want to buy a Black bay at the same time? Looks like what you really want is a diver. If so, then I’d say forget the Explorer and the Black Bay, and get the Sub. |

Both are fantastic. I chose Explorer as I prefer that it can dress up or down and isn't the ubiquitous I've got $9k and want a nice watch Sub. I'll likely get a Sub someday, but chose Explorer first as it suits my personal style better.
Get whatever you like best.

I bought an Explorer and enjoyed it for about a month before concluding that I was looking for a watch with a bit more oomph than it offered, so I sold it and bought a brand-new 114060 (it's in the mail to me now).
The Sub offers the bold features most often associated with a Rolex tool watch (the bezel, crown, and bolder indices), while the Explorer is more lithe, low-key and comfortable. I'm not saying either is "right", but just that you should consider your own expectations before deciding. Have fun choosing! |

If you like the Sub most of these three watches, buy the Sub. It’s that simple. Quality beats quantity when it comes to watches.
I’m not saying inexpensive watches can’t be great or have a spot in a collection. I’m not saying buy the Sub because I think it’s better than the Explorer. But it sounds like you like the Sub the most. |

Had both, like both equally as much - tired of my customers remarking on it so I went Explorer and find its a pleasure to wear 24/7. Good luck.

I would buy the Submariner. The Explorer and the BB are nice watches but not in the game with the Submariner for me. The Submariner will do good as a one and only and in a bit you can pick something else up.

Sub ...yawn...predictable Rolex training wheels.
Explorer ... Interesting, thoughtful choice, closer in soul to Rolex heritage... but your $$$$$$ so get what you want |

Exp, obviously, as it doesn't have that fussy bezel.

I was heavily considering the Explorer and Explorer II, because I thought the Submariner was too "obvious". So I tried them all on. From there, what watch to get was obvious:
Go with your gut. This is a silly thing we do; if it feels right, it probably is. |

For me the sub is also the more practical watch with the timing bezel and glidelock clasp, both of which the Explorer lack. And when you try the BB on I think you’ll find it’s not really in the same league as the sub.
