Daytona Advice Needed

I currently have a 116520 White Dial. I have an option to get a New Ceramic Black Dial 1165500.

For those of you that own or owned 116520 and 116500 either white or black, and you have to choose, which one you prefer and why. Those of you that sold 116520 to get 116500, any regrets?

If I pass, it will be a while for next opportunity as there are a number of people on the list. I don’t want to flip the 116500 as I value opportunity from the AD.

I think a 116520 makes a great pair with a 116500. You've only got to determine which pair better works for you. In my case, the perfect Daytona duo was the black dial 6520 with the white dial 6500.

If you must choose one, consider that it's unlikely that you will find a nib 116520 for a reasonable price down the road. The D500, while difficult to get, will be around for msrp for a long time still.

I sold a 116520 black dial and picked up a 116500 white dial and I couldn't be happier. It's very much a personal choice but to me it came down to a few things:



1 - the ceramic bezel made the watch look/feel bigger

2 - It's WAY less shiny/blingy

3 - I find the white dial with the black sub-dials easier to read

4 - Sometimes you just don't bond with a watch. That's how it was for the SS version. But the Ceramic White dial I absolutely love.

I had your same watch a couple of years ago (white dial 116520) and I could not get used to those mirror finish silver sub dials. I even sourced a WG panda dial to swap in but in the end traded it toward a WG sub. I'm on the list for a 116500 and would take either dial.

The only 'regret' is that the trade-in value has jumped quite a bit...but no regrets getting rid of it.

I haven't owned either of the two you're discussing, but I'd buy the Ceramic and own both. You then can determine which you really want (if not both?), and then you can sell whichever doesn't last. You're not buying the Ceramic to flip, and if you have a good relationship with your AD, hopefully they will understand if you decide to flip at some point in the future.

Having worn both — I have to say that overall I am partial to the 116520 — but they most DEFINITELY can do-exist, they wear quite differently. So if you really want it — buy it - you won’t regret it.

The Ceramic bezel makes the watch more sporty — the classic steel bezel has a more sporty/dress aspect to me.

They definitely complement each other. I wouldn't think one is necessarily superior to the other.

I was in the same position as you-had a black dial 116520 and was going to sell it to fund the white dial ceramic 116500. I just couldn't let go of the 116520. It was one of my favorites and it has such a classy and rich look to it, especially with the black dial and stainless bezel. I ended up keeping it and was lucky enough to purchase a white dial ceramic from my dealer. (I called him the day the ceramic 116500 was released at Basel and was first on the list) So my advice is to keep it and get the new one if you can swing it!

I owned the 116520 and currently have the 116500. I enjoyed the 116520 but like the 116500 a bit more. The polished bezel of the outgoing model was tough to maintain and the silver subrings were a little hard to read. Both are great though and I would have kept the 116520 if it were a black dial as my DayronaC is white.

I’ve owned all four so that’s my take. First choice would be both ceramics.

I own a black dial 116500 and I absolutely love the sporty and robust look. I think the SS bezel on the 116500 is a bit to shiny, however it is a bit more classy.

Keep both for a month or so and then make your decision.

Hi, I am in exactly the same position as you (except I haven’t had call from my AD yet) would have to sell my white 116520 for whichever colour they eventually call me with (hopefully white) I’m thinking I may miss my 116520 also. Out of curiosity, how long had you waited on the list before getting the call for the 500?

They are both completely different watches. I have the 116520 in the black dial and the 116500 in the white dial. For the 116500 I prefer the white dial, as the dial is completely new. The black dial is just the same as the previous version. Additionally, I also love the contrast in the black and white dial of the 116500. It actually adds a "pop" to the watch. I would hold out only for the white dial....and not rush into getting the black one, unless you really want it.

Get it. You'll have the best of each version. The 520 in white is great and the black D500 is stunning.

The black D500 is my favorite of all versions. Pics do it no justice.

White 116520 and black 116500 would be the ideal pairing of Daytonas for me...if you are able to have both, that'd be my choice.

Only one? Black 116500...had mine for over a year and a half now and still love it. Coming from a guy like me, with a wandering eye when it comes to watches, that says a lot.

Had the black face. Sold it and got a white face and then added red colored hands to the sub dials and large second hand.

Now my old eyes can see the time at a glance. Worked out well for me.

116520 for the retro and classic look. The ceramic for the modern look. Both are nice in their own way. If you're a collector, you gotta start with the 116520 and eventually have both.
