How infrequently do you have to wear a watch before it’s time to let it go?
My explorer gets worn maybe once every two weeks and that’s generally because I feel bad that I’m not wearing it more.
Of the watches that aren’t gifts, sentimental, etc...how infrequently do you have to wear a watch before you decide it’s time to let it go? |

I don’t think it’s a matter of frequency but the feeling I get when I do put it on. I don’t wear my hulk that often. Maybe once or twice a month. But every time I do remember how beautiful it is. Other watches have come and gone but I knew when I’d put it on that it wasn’t a keeper. Regardless of the wrist time.

There's no magic number. I seldom wear my YG DD, RG Daytona or the Hulk, but very unlikely will I let any of these go.

This one is tough.
I have a Seiko that I hadn't worn in a few weeks... I actually threw it on yesterday, and maaaaaaaan did I enjoy it. I agree with jrs146 about "the feeling I get when I put it on." |

I’m ready to let go, when I strap on a watch that doesn’t make me smile. Once you lose that, it’s all over ... at least for me that’s how it works.

When I start thinking of it as trade bait, it's only a matter of time. Usually at this point I already have my eye on something else, so bye bye to the poor fellow.

I buy what I like even if the occasion to wear it comes once a month! It’s worth it to me to have it on my wrist when the occasion calls for it

That DSSD black looks great...I can see why the other has trouble competing.

I know it's time when I wear a piece because I feel bad that I haven't worn it for a while. That generally leads me to look forward to tomorrow so I can wear one of my favorites. For me, it's time to pull the ripcord on it.

I honestly let my less-worn pieces go for a year or two before deciding to sell it. I often will fall in/out of love with some, so I let them simmer for quite a while to prevent seller's remorse.

Here is a pic. Because “pics or it didn’t happen”
Please don’t roast me over the strap. I know it’s not amazing. It was just for fun, and took me longer than I expected haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You’re right, I might try to fix that next weekend. Anyway, yes, I hadn’t worn it in weeks, changed the strap, threw it back on and remembered why I bought it in the first place. I think it’s about how the watch makes you feel |

I'm this way, too. Sometimes I'll go a long time without touching one, and then I'll come back to it and find that I'm still in love.

For me it is a balance of what I have in a watch and what I am looking for. If I have a watch that does not get worn a lot and has a lot of value and the special feeling is gone, so is it. If the watch has low value, used Seiko Turtle, then why get rid of it and it rides in the collection.

No time frame. If I don't enjoy and look forward to wearing it, it goes.
Obviously doesn't apply to the sentimental pieces in the collection. |

If it's a downwards trajectory of wearing the watch less and less often, then it falls into a danger zone... and then if something else takes my fancy I may pull the trigger.

If i go a month or two without wearing it, it is time to go for most my everyday type watches.
If the watch is more expensive, it might be sooner, if it is a cheapy, it will be longer. And if its a special occasion watch, then I'll usually give it longer. Like a year or 2. |

There's no magic number for me...as my watches get worn in rotation, they all pretty much get equal wrist time.
The kicker for me is if it's a watch's time spot and I don't really want to wear it...or while I'm wearing it I'm wishing I was wearing something else. Those are the kisses of death for me. |

If you’re feeling disconnected to it, then it’s time to let it go. As many members will vouch, many of us have let pieces go only to desire them again and realize it was a mistake to have sold them and subsequently reacquire them.

Same. I was contemplating a purge of my collection last year, but as I started to try on some of my lesser worn pieces, I instantly started remembering what it was about them that lead me to purchase them originally.

Still have all of my Rolex except the 1st one I passed on to my son, 2 of them I don't even wear but I do like them all so no need to get rid of any.
Meanwhile I enjoy my daily which is a Seiko turtle PADI with Jubilee bracelet/300MM claps, it's a real beauty and has a tool watch feel of a 5-digit GMT |

In order for me to part with a watch I try to use the same care to get the best price as I did when I bought it. It's a bit too much work for me so in general it just doesn't happen. Issues like accurate representation, good photos, attention to offers or auctions make it work. In general it's a pain in the neck. And of course just because I'm not wearing it doesn't mean there isn't appreciation in value going on, fwiw.

The Explorer is a tricky one. I fall in and out of love with it all the time. When I don’t have it I muss it. When I re-acquire I don’t wear it. I don’t think I’d have that problem if I had a 1016 Explorer. My Railmaster has definitely scratched my Explorer itch of late.
