Rolex Daytona 116520: One Watch Experiment

I have not posted in a while since I've been busy with something or the other.

It seems like that I am going over to the dark side by simplifying my life and owning / wearing just one piece. And that piece just happens to be the 116520. I'm getting rid of my small collection with some money in the bank and the rest being spent on the Daytona.

I just want to try and see if I can be that one watch person. I'm treating this as an experiment and lets see what happens.

I'll start posting some pics once I get it and keep this post updated on the experiment.

Although, I'm not a one-watch person, I could be very easily. For me, it wouldn't be a Daytona, but that's just me. It's like anything in life - you just need to decide you are going to do it, and then just do it.

Good luck.

I suppose when you think about it, one quality watch should be enough. Just wear and enjoy it without concern for developing a collection. Plus those trips to the RSC for routine servicing can really add up for several pieces. I often think about a minimalist way of life, perhaps it may be happier. Good luck! Cheers!

Well, nervous might not be the right term but there is a sense of hesitancy in taking this step. But I'm committed.

I did this with my guitar collection and it took me a while to trim down to just one acoustic and one electric guitar. I spent more time collecting than actually playing the damn instruments.

What would you choose?

Daytona has been the holy grail for me for a long time.

I would do it but mine would have to be the white gold Pepsi or white gold smurf.

Ha indeed!! I too am a guitar/amp/pedal collector and find myself tripping over them. Thought of just keeping the best of each type and selling the rest. So it goes. Cheers!

OK...that's a great watch to try it with.

I would need something with a date, but that's me...

Interesting experiment. Probably a hilarious idea for most who don’t own a nice watch or have always owned only one.

Good luck to you! Keep us updated.

Have you tried any amps by Tone King?

Daytona is my Grail watch, and finally got the SS 116520 I'd been wanting two weeks ago.

I'm toying with the idea of a No Date Sub, or most likely a Rhodium Datejust, but the fact is, I can't really see committing that amount of dollars for another watch in lieu of a family vacation or something else.

My Daytona is the one....but we'll see how I do in a year or so.

I'd have a hard time being a one watch kind of guy. Heck, I have a hard time being a "one" of anything kind of guy. But if I absolutely had to have just one watch? The most practical (for me) would be a no-date SubC - 114060. If practicality wasn't the issue, it'd definitely be the 116719BLRO. That's my grail watch these days.

You will end up spending more money to get used ones getting back in your collection. Not a good move unless you crave for Daytona.

It's an ambitious endeavor. Does it preclude you from considering buying another watch? I've whittled down to one just so I could get back on the hunt. Dropping that would be harder than not having a watch.

I think if it was my SS SkyD I could do only one watch. With that said I will opt for many!

Good luck!

Good luck! It’s akways that occasion or that instance that “calls” for a certainwatch and it’s nice to have it!

I have sold off two of my modest three watch collection - I have been wearing one watch since October 2017. But it's not the watch I kept - which now sits in a drawer - my Zenith Striking 10th. I am wearing an Apple Watch Series 3 every day... LOL. I tell you the activity rings have me. Apple has "gamified" the wearing experience. It's also great for my physical health - I have lost 13lbs. Well, I am sorry to bring this up in the thread...
