Which one?

Hi guys

I currently own a explorer 36mm 114270 as my daily but I want to add a special occasions piece, now my dilemma is choosing between two , do I go for a all yellow gold day date 18038 or a two tone 116231 DJ in rose gold, please don’t mention any divers as I’ve had them in the past and now I’m realising 36mm size is my sweet spot.

These are the exact watches I’m considering about.

Any advice would be welcomed and appreciated!

Ken

That is nice but I’m guessing out of my budget and bigger than 36mm!

How much is that DD? Most are 12k+

What is your budget?

Maybe look at a blue or rhodium dial datejust on a super jubilee with fluted bezel

It’s just under £10k .

And my budget is pretty much £10k!

Ken, the DD is a 5 digit reference and as such has a hollow bracelet and an old style clasp. It might be that the bracelet is worn, given the asking price.
If so it will set you back another 2K to get it fixed. Still than the 18038 has not the quick set feature.
This may give you an underwhelming feeling if worn for the first time. You need more and better pictures showing the bracelet stretch and clasp.
The crown on the clasp is a good indication on how it was polished and pics must be without the show case filling ring.

I'd save up some more to find a very good 18238. Don't settle for the DJ. Nothing beats a President

Here my 18238 with quick set and a tight bracelet.

Thanks for the reply but I’ve actually already seen the watch itself in person, it’s actually in very mint condition, bracelet is stiff doesn’t droop or anything like that and the clasp is Nice and stiff to open and close so all in all it’s a very looked after example, if anything it looks hardly worn and I’m thinking it was most probably a safe queen lol.

Thanks, it definitely checks out as I’ve been using this jeweller for all my previous watches.

Not sure yet, it’s a toss up between the two at the moment, I’m gonna be trying on both on the day so I guess I’ll know then, plus it’s like a £3k difference in price between them.
