Going on a customer rewards trip...question?

For those that have been on a employee or customer trip to Cancun. Is wearing a gold DJ too much? Should I tone it down with an Omega, etc.?

There will be a lot of Rolexes there so you'll be fine.

I wouldn’t, but that’s just me though. I wear something I’d be ok sitting in the walk up pool bar for hours on end without leaving once

I think it’s fine. Resorts are always flooded with rolex watches. Plus no one notices anyways.

If you’re staying on the resort and don’t plan to go to town then you’re fine. Otherwise I’d ask people that have been there.

I think the question should be, how do you feel about giving away whatever is on your arm in the event you get mugged?

My brother got mugged on the beach in broad daylight there...just saying.

Enjoy what you have! Watches are made to be enjoyed not to be worried about. If you’re going to a place where you’re not sure, leave it in the safe in your room

Why wouldn't the Gold DJ work for sitting in the walk up pool bar for hours on end without leaving?

ive stayed in the area several times. Got married in Maroma Beach. I always wear my watch(es) at the resort. I’ve worn a Rolex for day/night trips to playa del Carmen several times with no issue.

Not sure about the actual city Cancun though. Never been. Either way Insure it and have fun!

My company’s security policy for staff traveling to some countries was to dress so as to not attract attention and to not frequent “American” places like Hard Rock Cafe. Getting mugged for a flashy watch of other jewelry was a problem but so was being in a venue that would be a soft target for anti-American bad guys. A place loaded with lots of expensive watches is a happy hunting ground for bad actors.

Here's a quote from the NY Times: On Aug. 22, the U.S. Department of State issued an updated travel warning on Mexico, advising caution in several popular beach destinations, including Cancún, the Riviera Maya and Los Cabos, for the first time.

Looks like the DJ is staying home!

I have heard second hand that Cancun is not nearly as safe today as it was just a few years ago. We stayed at a nice hotel there two years in a row and walked to dinner most nights with SS shirt on and my TT DJ without issue. But that was 2 and 3 years ago.

Anecdotal stories say the situation is not as safe today. I don't know first hand.

First question I got from a client was “where’s the Rolex?”

I agreed with the posts and didn’t bring the gold DJ to Cancun.

People do pay attention!
