New vs vintage service
Can someone speak about the different levels and or types of servic?. I’m new to Rolex and am interested in getting a 60-70s dj. I also love the look of the new ones too and might get a new one(Navy retirement gift to myself).
I love vintage watches and have a few from other manufacturers and if I get a vintage Rolex what is service/repair like for these? Will Rolex polish the case automatically, ruining the patina? Are parts hard to get/expensive compared to a newer piece? If I were to get a new piece I don’t think I’d want them to polish the case. I like my watches to look as though they don’t live in the sock drawer. This will be a daily wear. |

Service is no different from any other 3 hand watch and parts are relatively easy to come by still. The service will consist of disassembling the movement, ultrasonic cleaning, replacement of main spring and gaskets and if there are any worn parts internally. Being a 60-70’s they may not pressure test the case. Finally timing of the watch to confirm it’s running correctly. Most watch makers will only polish the case if you tell them to. When you send it in just make sure you tell them not to polish.

A lot of ADs will give you a list of planned procedures and let you check off on it. ADs have been known to go on their own and change things. I would pick from the trusted watchmakers that you see on here rather than an AD IMHO

I typically remove the band so they can't ruine it
