Both are genuine, don’t worry. Your friends pice looks well used and loved, yours pretty much mint!
Lovely pics, thanks for sharing!

You have a genuine watch.

Replicas are easily spotted from the datewheel hole and the clear case movement.

Replica datewheel hole will cut to the edge of the dial.

Also, when you flip to the back of the watch, replicas use cheap jewels and cannot replicate the aesthetic movements of the GP.

Looks like your dog's been chewing on it... Get it some rubber toys instead.

I think your friends watch is a rep. The colors are different shades on the dial and the pushers. The crown is smaller. The print is fuzzy and the fonts on everything isn't the same.

Both watches are genuine.
But, OP’s anodized red DOES look better.
Maybe your friend’s is somewhat faded due to sunlight or storage or something? That red seems duller.

At least he is wearing & enjoying it!! That’s awesome! Too many people have special occasion/safe queen watches, and/or flip them quickly with very little wear for something else. If I like something, I want to enjoy (wear) it! I bet OP gets more enjoyment from having his GP on his wrist than from knowing its tucked away safely somewhere ;)
Too many people are value/price/resale driven.

Yes they are both real, but could AP have made a slight red colour variation in different years? I don't want to think that dial colour changes/fades that much after not that many years.

If there was one thing I'd change about the GP strap I'd make the edges sharper and less fluffy but you can obviously see why it isn't, so it matches the FC case better. I first saw this in action on Edgar Davids, great football player.

I totally agree about using a watch rather storing it. That said I'm afraid that watch is just too damaged for my liking - it just looks a mess.

What did Ap change in Forged carbon after the Gp better resin ??? My Ginza came 2011 I think the forged carbon is perfect. I’m always wearing the watch, not even the bevels smoothing out as people suggest might happen with F.C. these pictures I find scare people to death of forged carbon
I can’t see my Ginza going like this and I can’t believe a laptimer would
So was the Gp a earlier attempt in perfecting the process

I think it's ok your watch.
But it's not a big thing to go to a watchmaker to check!
Also you can upgrade to a ceramic bezel

the FC fails when its spread so thinly as the bezel, otherwise it holds up pretty well, and I prefer it over any metal

AP did change resin or something that changed the exterior hardness of FC. I remember in the early days you could scratch off fibers with your finger nails. However, AP was the first to bring forged carbon to watches. The Alinghi and GP were early examples. I say it all the time but my H series FC diver has been a daily beater for 5+ years and still looks new. I have some FC cases and they don’t exhibit any of these wear traits after trying to scratch them and drop them. After personal use FC is one of my favorite materials for watch cases. Love the Panerai carbotech and the RM carbon as well.

Both genuine watches.

Look at the date wheel position and crown position as well as movement.

The red fades if exposed to the sun for a prolonged period of time.
Both are gen, the DW cutout/depth and movement are dead give away with fake ROOs. They look terrible.

FC GP bezel is soft and wears over time. Best to change to ceramic once it looks nasty (like your friend's one).
