Diamonds on a GMT
Doesn’t adding a diamond bezel take away the functionality of the watch? I keep seeing Rolex GMT II watches with the ruby and diamond bezels and find it confusing.

It eliminates it's functionality completely.

That’s what I thought. I may be in the market for a GMT II this year and have been researching them. I started seeing ones with diamond bezels. Seems wasteful. Thanks for the confirmation! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

But it looks real blingy and there’s a good chance it will attract the wrong kind of attention.

I used to use mine all the time traveling from Australia to Europe/USA, it really is a simple and useful feature. If you are travelling less than 3 hours in time zones I.e. across a continent) does not make sense but when out by 14 hours etc I found it very valuable, for a pilot it always made sense which was what it was designed for.

It’s not about function, once diamonds are on a Rolex. Now, it’s about the bling-bling.

In my previous (and possible return to) career I did a lot of travel, albeit almost all in the US, I am attracted to the functionality of the GMT and its history. If I buy one, it’s to use it as it was designed. With that said, I own 3 Speedmasters (Pro, Triple Date and Broad Arrow Olympic) and never use the timing function. I suppose that makes me either a snob, hypocrite or both. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I can’t lie, it is a gorgeous timepiece. My first Rolex was a stainless DateJust (1603, I think)I had a diamond dial and bezel. Kept it until I bought my DJ2. I don’t think I’ll be adding any diamonds to this watch. And if I bought a GMT, I’ll buy one sans ice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Porn stars maybe. Actually I was thinking some one who wears this could easily become a target.

Agree, but those rubies won't help. Bet you it makes it worse and not any better.

You want utility? That bezel is significantly more scratch resistant.

All respect due. You are probably one of the most informative forum members. And you always give give accurate and detailed responses. But in this case i disagree. No functionality has been lost. In this example the diamonds take the place of 2, 4, 6 etc. The blue stones represents nighttime. The black stones represents daytime. Like it or not. No functionality has been lost. Your only valid criticism would be black stones representing daytime instead of night. https://instagram.com/p/BaDAUkFD84C/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

those who put diamond on their GMT aren't bright enough to use the function.

^ They have to make up for the lack of intelligence with bright diamonds.

I can see that, but it would still be more of a task to calculate the time using diamonds instead of numbers. Great insight, however. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Adding 12 to each hour on the dial is not hard? Functionality is still there.

I love a GMT with FACTORY diamonds .... The aftermarket diamonds make the watch look bad

I don’t think it will be more of a task. There will just be a period of adjustment before it becomes 2nd nature. When I got my first GMT watch there was a period of adjustment for me in reading the GMT hand because I was not used to reading time on a 24hr scale. But having owned a GMT watch for 4yrs now. No issues at all. (Personally I would never own a blinged out GMT. I am more of a purist when it comes to my taste in watches.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yep and it does show Rolex has a sense of humor a’la the Rainbow and Leopard Daytona’s. The Tachymeter scale, though, is a bit harder to read by the color of the stones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
