Blue AP RO?
SO I was in the AP dealer and they showed me a white SS 37mm RO that fit my small wrist perfectly. I said I wanted a blue, and she said there was a waiting list. I said fine.
She then showed me another AP, the only blue in their store, and it was a very dark blue, almost a blue-black. That model was large and had complications. She said that was the actual color of AP blue so I should buy the white face. She gave me an AP catalog and when I got home and looked through it, the various APs, including the 37mm, were of the normal AP blue everyone knows and loves. Price of the one I want is 16K USD. Any thoughts on AP blue - has it changed or was she just using a sales technique to get me to buy the white dial? |

She was selling you, the blue on the 37mm 15450 is the most vibrant of all, the 15202 is a bit darker and the old 15300 is very dark, probably like the one she showed you.
15400 and 15450 have the same blue dial in thread below. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=592440 |

Aren’t the blue dials boutique only for the most part? I’ve read that ADs will get them, but it seems quite rare.

I am guessing she showed you a perpetual ro in blue which has a dial more akin to the 15202. The 15450 and 15400 have a more vibrant lighter shade.

Thanks to all. I will get on the list for the blue 37mm.
I could not remember how to multi-quote in my reply, but I do appreciate all who responded. Quote:

The blue of the model that you want is beautifully vibrant and sometimes nicely subdued, depending on the light. It’s the same as the 15400 blue, and ever so slightly more vibrant than the 15202 blue.
It’s a fantastic watch, and fits me perfectly. I know you’re a Daytona wearer, the 15450 wears like a Daytona on me. Here are a few pics of my 15450, which is exactly the one you’re interested in. |

Blue AP RO?
[QUOTE=Skanse;8384481]
They look the same in those photos. I think the one in the sunlight you posted above, the left one is angled a bit more and is hitting the sun different. In the two photos of ours indoors (my third original), they look the same to me.... dunno Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You guys with the 300 - would you say the blue is more akin to the 15202 or to the 15400/15450? I’ve never seen one in person, but in photos it looks like the 15202 blue.
Another pic from today, mostly just to make Neil jealous of the sun. |

Congrats on acquiring such an under-appreciated reference, though in the past month I've been noticing more love for it. Having had the 15450st blue in the past and currently own the YG 15450ba, I can say without hesitation that the 37mm Royal Oak fits nearly identical to the 40mm 16570 Explorer 2, and the 116520 SS Daytona. I own both these Rolex models and the 15450 fits remarkably similar in size.

Closer to the 202 blue in my opinion. But what's so cool about it is each lighting condition and angle can make the blue appear differently. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes the blue is darker, more like the 202

Again, thank you to everyone who responded to this thread, especially those who posted photos of the different blue dials. This is most helpful.
I am debating with myself whether to buy the watch as we are spending a lot of money on some high-end furniture. My wife said buy it if I want it, we can afford it. But I don't want to be reckless with money. So we shall see. I'm leaning toward buying it at this point. |

Best of luck to you. One thing to keep in mind with these is that they are a good place to park money, would never call them investments as some tend to do. So if you have the cash and want it, and prepared to take good care of it, you can generally sell them for what you paid, more, or very close to when/if you need the money for something else. At least that's how I rationalize the addiction!

I rationalize it the same way, as long as I'm buying SS sport Rolex or AP I figure it's a decent store of value. |
