PVD/DLC talk - post your pics

Pros:
-Looks awesome
-Unique
-People see it as a statement or rare

Cons:
-Rolex won't touch a coated watch so you have to service it at another center (but, you can de-coat it and they will service it for you after it's restored to its original state)
-PVD tends to wear off and rack up scratches after a while and its not pretty (can't say "it adds character" on this one) but depending on the quality of the coating it can make it more or less scratch resistant.
-DLC apparently makes the steel a few times stronger than normal.

Im curious to know what everybody thinks of a PVD/DLC watch and how many have them? Lets see some photos!

Here’s my 116334

I myself am not a big fan. I like to keep my watches oem, but to each their own.

Dlc doesnt make the steel any degree stronger. All the coating are crap as far as wear goes , some are crappier than others. They all wear , ive had them all as i like a black watch. Never again unless is composite.

Have you gotten any de-coated? If yes, was it restored nicely?

I’ve been eyeing the Tudor Black Bay Dark, but don’t know if the PVD will hold up well. Is a factory PVD job the same process as an aftermarket job? I don’t want to throw away $4500 for a watch that will look terrible in 6 months.

I think your DJII looks pretty fashionable. I have no personal experience with PVD or DLC, but I desire an all black Rolex very much. I have looked into them, and they just look amazing when new and done tastefully, but when the coating wears, it just looks terrible in my opinion. I think an all black watch in Ceramic would be a job well done. I was considering the Tudor Fastrider for a moment, and now every once in a while entertain the thought of the Pam 438.

The Pro’s are quite subjective aside from “unique”.

But the Con’s are definitely not worth the inevitable problems.

I do respect everyone who chooses the unique look because they are putting their money where it provides them satisfaction.

I think Rolex is missing the boat by not offering a“Black Label” customization option. They have so many gem set options that you’d think they’d offer some black label ones too.

I have the Tudor Black Bay black(PVD). I don't use the bracelet at all on the BBD, but so far, the watch coating holds up quite well. but to be fair, I do not use the BBD daily, its used on rotation. based on the 2 year warranty, I stand corrected, but i believe if coating does not hold, i think it is covered by warranty from factory.

the BBD offers what aftermarket companies do, but with factory warranty and at a very reasonable price. I had bought an aftermarket dlc coated submariner, but if the BBD had come out earlier, I definitely would not have bought the aftermarket piece.

I do own the gold and black Fastrider black shield, and with its ceramic case,as you may already know, ceramic is different from PVD and DLC coating. The ceramic case is moulded from foundry, and is highly resistant to scratches. The ETA based chrono movement and quickset date function make it really a joy to have.

I think it makes the watch more subtle. Perfect for casual wear.
I feel like a polished steel bracelet is too flashy for me sometimes. Although great with a suit but for casual time i prefer my black DJ.

I like the look... but not nearly enough to do it to one of my own. Fun to see in pictures, not to actually own.
