Discount on DJ41

Hi all,

First post, owner of a BLNR and on wait lists for Daytona C and Sky Dweller. Although like others feel the chance of the call goes down by the day.

Have the funds put aside and getting a bit itchy for my next watch.

A DJ41 blue, jubilee with fluted bezel looks beautiful, however I don’t think I would have the need for it if the blue Sky Dweller call ever comes.

As the knowledge on this board is great and as I understand DJ’s are a lot more accessible would a discount be expected.

My hope by buying the DJ, I continue my relationship with AD. I get a new watch to enjoy and if needed I can sell on without taking too much of a hit.

Thanks

Only buy it if you enjoy wearing it, just like any other watch, you can never bet on future values.

I would never pay MSRP for a DJ. Why would you when you can easily get them for significant discount from Grey's.

Also, I would not buy a DJ just to curry favor with an AD in hopes of moving up on some mythical list. I doubt a DJ would do much to prioritize you in the eyes of an AD anyway.

Blue DJ with fluted bezel is a nice looking watch! I would think you could get a discount. Good luck!

No reason to ever pay MSRP for a Datejust.

Thanks, I do find myself getting drawn to a simple dial (love the no date sub) and can possibly see a situation where I prefer the looks to the Sky Dweller. Although the Sky Dweller is so advanced and partly the hype, I don’t think I could turn it down and could not justify owning both.

Thanks it is a strange thing for me where the seller holds so much more power than the buyer.

I am fairly new to the high end luxury market and always assumed if you where willing to spend such a high amount of money on a watch, sellers would be fighting for your business.

I do understand the principle to control supply and the wait lists create hype and desirability.

I guess in your opinion unless you want to buy PM you will not curry much favour.

Champagne dial, oysterflex bracelet Daytona it is. Just might have to wait a couple more years.

If you're just looking for a placeholder before one of the watches you want arrives, then I would buy pre-owned and get it for as cheap as possible.

But then again, I would never recommend buying something as expensive as a Rolex for a placeholder.

DJ 41 is a nice piece. I prefer smooth on oyster but I wouldn't buy one new unless I got 10% off. I'd rather buy a full set used and not take the hit. If your trying to further your AD relationship and no discount maybe try to get a SS sports if possible but they may not be feesible. I'm just thinking out loud anyway. Good luck on your wait, It will show.

I see, honestly if you like it, get it, there is always going to be another watch down the road that you may like more than the Sky Dweller and can make the decision to buy later on, but I agree, you should be able to get a discount on DJ from ADs. Just shop around!

I paid msrp for my dj41 fluted + jubilee bracelet with rhodium diamond indices. Doesn’t bother me that I paid msrp. Wife doesn’t like us buying preowned. And no grey dealers. So msrp.

Also this is my daily

My AD offered me 15% off the blue DJ 41 with fluted bezel... And he didn’t have it with the jubilee bracelet that I wanted so the 15% off was on a special order. If I took the rhodium dial or blue with oyster bracelet that he had in stock I think I could have gotten 20% off

In SG, some ADs give a 12-15% discount on DJ41. Then, you can also avail the tax rebate of around 5%

Was just at an AD in Tulsa, OK.
DJ SS discount was 5%
DJ TT discount was 9%
And any Solid gold was 12%

If it is a placeholder then not a good idea in UK, you won't get much of a discount and will lose a lot on resale.

So is everyone dead set on not paying the msrp DJ41 as you will lose a lot on resale?

How much would you expect to lose on the resale?

Would you pay the MSRP if you were able to claim the tax back or would a pre-owned still be a better option?

If I was buying in UK and got tax back I would definitely buy brand new from AD. Would make a basic DJ41 come out at like £4700 which is great value.

If you get the the VAT back you will probably come out even on resale.

Bought a DJ recently in the UK. Paid Full Retail price. When asked if a small discount could be offered, was politely told "No". Not the end of the World in my opinion: I'm happy with what I got, a brand new piece, a 5 year warranty, and a relationship with the AD (it's my 2nd purchase).

These days, 5% maximum in the UK I would have thought. AD’s are starting to say that this combo of DJ you want is becoming a wait list watch itself! The Rolex world continues to amaze me

The AD I bought a Rolex from in Greece said that he had a waitlist for the DJ41. He hasn’t seen one in months.

I would be surprised with a discount especially on the blue dial, but pretty much any SS watch is a no go these days. They dont get enough SS watches to be discounting the ones they do get. DJ or otherwise. Its the UK we are talking about here, maybe in the US.

I'd suggest going grey for a mint pre-owned model as you'll save the most there, especially if you don't anticipate keeping the watch once the SkyD comes in. This way, if/when you decide to sell, you're minimizing your loss.
