Why Rolex Matters....
Not sure if this has been posted yet...I stumbled upon it earlier this evening.
Most of us on this site are hobbyists. WIS if you will.. We fret over the flaws and quality of our watches. Is the new Pepsi the right colors? etc We pontificate over what the market is up to and why we can ONLY buy Datejusts and not SS Daytonas when we visit the Rolex AD...I am very guilty of this. We are a very select group in the watch world, with highly focused opinions and interests. This is what Rolex means to rest of the world. and yes...it's a "just" a Datejust, but it wasn't to him and certainly not to others. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/16/s...FVKqaQodUaEFCA |

This is a sad story, and it is a reminder that we must stop complain when we are fine and enjoy life because there are many, too many unfortunate person on this planet.

There’s beauty in time and timepieces which evoke that emotion in us, feel sad for him yet happy that it gave him much joy before he was relieved of the pain.

Thanks for sharing. Life's too short, watch is just a small hobby of my many hobbies no need to stress out over little things, most importantly go out and play

Thanks for this touching read. Makes me wonder if all the time spent obsessing over what’s on my wrist may be better used elsewhere :(
But I love my newfound hobby and that counts for something right? |

Thank you so much for sharing. I did some further research upon reading this article and Ari Diaconis was a member of the band Rubblebucket and was an activist for many noble causes. Full circle for me as I like their music. Their song Came out of a Lady was scored in the film Drinking Buddies.

Such a good story, yet a terrible ending. I can see how this would make some people reconsider their watch hobby, but the way I see it, we don't know when our time in this world will come to an end. To him, he was able to experience that joy of owning such a great watch. Yes, the DJ2 is a great watch, and the experience is worth every moment

So sad, and beautiful. I bought my first Tudor to celebrate the successful completion of some medical treatment for my heart.

What a heart breaking but life affirming essay that is.
Although it is clearly about his life & partner, I also took from it that man made objects do bring joy and express what one has achieved in their life, no matter how short it can be. I want to go home & hug my Wife now, rest in peace young man. |
