Did I make a mistake? Thoughts on DJ 16013?

I was thinking about going with a new air king with a budget of $5500-$6200 but came across a vintage two tone champagne dial DJ in great condition at Tourneau and purchased it for $3500. I’ve never owned vintage, circa 1985 and have mixed emotions after purchasing it. Any thoughts and advice will be appreciated.

That's my favorite Datejust model. Tourneau is an established business so if you have any problems they should help you out. Usually the biggest issues with the older models is that the jubilee bracelet will stretch over time. Rolex bracelets are pretty expensive. Do you know its service history?

No I don’t but I made sure to closely check the stretch and the level of polish and both were very good for a watch nearly 35 years old. The photos are still up.

My mistake, they took the one I bought down. Just like this one but with baton indices and less polish. The crown on clasp is in much better shape.

I think you overpaid a wee bit, but the price is reasonable considering that you bought it from an established store. Still not a bad purchase overall. 5-digit DJ's are still some of the best Rolex watches you can buy from a value standpoint.

Great to know and thanks for that!

I actually paid $3440 and they threw in a Hadley Roma brown leather strap and a travel case.

Why mixed emotions?

I guess it's because I have vintage when I originally wanted a 2016+ Air King which is a modern.

I gotta say, I'm not into vintage at all but this two tone DJ really spoke to me when I was at Tourneau. The watch has been completely overhauled by Tourneau and it looked brand new. I guess spending ~$2500 is easing the pain of not having a modern Rolex.

I dont like the gaps in the lugs specially when I dont enjoy vintage. I would rather buy a brand new modern Rolex as a first.

Congrats! I’m glad to hear you enjoy it - older DJs are a great value.
