Value of a box?

Hello all, what is the actual value of a box on it's own? i know it will probably be worth more the older the box as there are less in circulation but as a rule of thumb how much is a box worth?

Thanks
Daniel

The large box that comes with, say a platinum Daytona has sold for significant money. It was good advice to make sure the watch came in the correct box when buying it.

"Value" has different meanings. Yes they are a few hundred dollars on eBay, but if you ever wanted to sell it, from what I've seen, the watches with box and papers will sell first. That's "value" as well.

This. Only really worth it to have it when you sell or perhaps given as a gift.

Has more value as a complete set if you go to trade or sell.

Myself would not pay for a box period but some have more money than sence and pay crazy money for a box.

are you asking as part of a set? Or just a box in general? I think the values will grateful differ depending on this.

It may (or may not) have more value when you go to sell, but you can always just buy a box before you sell it.

Personally, I don't purchase without box and papers. Then again, I'm not looking for vintage models that are hard to find complete; the oldest watch I've bought with box and papers is a 16710.

Having the original box helps the value when you sell or trade

The modern boxes usually sell for $100-$200.
The older boxes and accessories carries little to no value on their own but adds quite some value to the watch IF they are original/period correct. IMHO it decreases the watch value if these accessories are cobbled together - they invite questions whether the watch is cobbled together as well. Personally, if I see a 90’s 5-digit GMT presented in a modern Green Wave Box, I would be quite skeptical.
