Birthday

I have a big birthday coming up in July. My wife is urging me to buy a watch. I’m not sure what if anything to buy.

I own DayDate, DateJust, BLNR, and a Calatrava. I never wear the Patek. The DayDate is my daily wear watch most of the time.

I’m mostly retired so I don’t need a dress watch. I thought about a Submariner but it looks too much like my GMT. I don’t like green.im not flashy.

I’d like to keep the cost under $15K.

Ideas?

How about a white dial watch? Sky Dweller or a ceramic Daytona perhaps.

Are you only looking at rolex? Or open to other brands? AP royal oak perhaps? It's a little bit about $15k but you can try to hunt for a deal

I am another vote for the white skydweller idea given your current collection.

A coworker of mine has a white Skydweller, beautiful watch. I'm also personally a fan of the YMII for casual wear, but that's hit or miss with a lot of people. Certainly unique though!

What a dilemma! ;-)

Would a vintage Sub or Sea-Dweller make you happy?

How about a Daytona?

The white SkyDweller idea is interesting. I am open to other brands.

I know this goes against the grain here, but honestly, if I had your collection, and I weren't feeling an itch for a particular watch, I would find something else to enjoy with my money.

Any interest in a Speedmaster Pro? It fits in nicely with the other classics you wear now.

I'm almost there. My last watch purchase was not a "maybe" issue. I fell in lust with the watch. Same way with the DayDate. Somewhat with the DateJust.

What about an Apple Watch? It comes in under budget!

I like the idea of a ceramic Daytona, although you may be getting it on the next big birthday...

I second the Sky D... it would by a nice add to your collection since the sub, ym, ymII have the same feel as far as your GMT...

I was going to say sky d in white as well. Or any color you can get. Mine in blue was for my 65th. The whites have gone for right about $15K. Best wishes on the upcoming birthday!!!

SD43 is good for a 50th birthday yet, and is still different. But then again so is a Hulk.

If you’re not sure, that means you’re content with those watches you already own.

I would rather save the money.

This was a lot easier when I could walk into my AD, scan a display of 20 or so Rolex watches and see if any appealed to me. I could try the watches on to see how they felt. I’d think it over and then buy one out of the safe.

Both of these are very good answers.

I say go get the new GMT Master II on jubilee when it comes out in summer. A splash of colour will be great.
