Allow me to share (my new rolex) (finally)
They say that every Rolex tells a story and I would like to share mine. I saw my first one when I was a child. My uncle Nick bought from Vietnam a GMT for himself and two seiko bellmatics. One of these was for my dad, and one was for my uncle Hank. Uncle Nick wore his GMT for 3 tours with the first Air Cav (I believe, but he doesn't talk much about it). I loved seeing and wearing his watch whenever I saw him, and used to love playing with and wearing daddy's bellmatic. Fast forward through many years and seeing rolexes on so many friends and family members (my grandfather's retirement was a gold datejust (sadly lost years ago, and daddy's retirement present from GA Power would've been choice of ss sport model)), and now here I am in my thirties. I have had many close calls with purchasing my first rolex but the timing was never quite right. I thought for the longest time that I wanted a submariner date, and each time that I was near to purchasing that was the model that I leaned towards. This was to be a watch that I would put on, and wear constantly and I am hard on watches. I had bought homage, and look alikes, but they just fell apart and they didn't quite have "the look" I had heard all of the stories about how tough and durable rolexes were and not only did they survive, but did so with style and class. My father passed away unexpectedly a couple of years ago, and I inherited his bellmatic, but it was just to fragile and special to subject to daily wear and tear. At any rate this was to be the year that I would get my rolex. After all of the near-misses over the years, my Jennifer popped the biggest suprise of all for my birthday (and christmas, and valentine's, and every other holiday for quite a while says she). She said that it was difficult to suprise me as my idea of what I wanted kept changing. Like I said earlier I had always fixated on the sub date, but after seeing the LV I thought that was the model for me, but the green just didn't smile when I tried it on. Next was the TT sub, again just beautiful-but not right on my wrist. After all of this I saw the GMT IIc, all the new improvements, and after trying it on WOW, it just melted into my wrist. This was love. It had the look, the durability, and style. I've lurked on TRF for a while, just drooling over everyone's incredible watches, and without further ado I would like to (finally) show my own. Thank you so much everyone (Jennifer you especially)
PS Before I get any comments, none of these pictures are intended or attempting to "show off" my firearm. I wear it like I wear pants, and I have a constitutional right to do so. I just happened to be wearing it when I got the box from UPS, and continued to do so while Jennifer was snapping pictures of me opening it. Hmmm a brown box, I thought rolex had green boxes? Buried Treasure Aaahhh a white box with a coronet, getting warmer. At last a green box and a watch OOoooohhhh shiny! Let slip it on before we size it... First wrist shot Second wrist shot with tori who loves having her picture taken... sizing the bracelet. First blood, won't be the last. Them little screwdrivers are sharp!! Sticker removal Man there are a ton of stickers!! First swim, after all it is an oyster!! Thanks everyone for reading. |

What a great story and great watch! I hope you're going to love your new Rolex as much as I do love my GMT c - and for many many years to come!

Hey, it's not Christmas yet, so put all those plastics back on, put the watch back in the box, and wrap it all back up,
And as punishment don't open it up again until 1 January 2009

I'm with Steve -- that watch goes back in the box 'til New Year's Day.
Congratulations! Cheers, Chris

Excellent write up.
And I just love the true, real spur of the moment pictures. Don't you just love it? You look as excited as I was when I first picked mine up. |

PS Before I get any comments, none of these pictures are intended or attempting to "show off" my firearm. I wear it like I wear pants, and I have a constitutional right to do so. I just happened to be wearing it when I got the box from UPS, and continued to do so while Jennifer was snapping pictures of me opening it.
ps. I wish I could wear a gun around my house in Brooklyn but the police would come and shoot me. |
