Does Rolex launch improved models outside of Baselworld period?

As per title, does Rolex launch improved models outside of Baselworld?

Say for example putting the new 70 hour power reserve movements into all the current submariners. Do they do that only in Baselworld or can it be a sudden random period like August or any month.

PS. I’m new here, not sure about the past histories of Rolex

The James Cameron Deep Sea comes to mind as one released outside of the Basel norm. As for New movements for existing models, that would be highly unusual. Maybe a dial option on a DJ, but that’s about it. In all likelihood the new movement will be in a new submariner at Basel 2019.

I would doubt if there will be any fanfare by Rolex of introduction of the 32 series in any current watch that uses the 31 series movement.

good point... that one came out at the same time as the movie of the dive.

On a related note, I still think its weird that the watch is nicknamed after person. The watch does not commemorate the person, but rather the dive and the deep sea challenge. D-Blue is a more fitting name, but i guess it lost out

I guess i should start calling the moon watch, the Armstrong

The 4130 in the daytona has been quietly updated since its inception. Still the same movement but they keep making improvements to it without telling anyone. (this was based on an article I read about a trip to rolex on Hodinkee)

You'll usually see dial/bezel variations be the only updates midyear, while model line redesigns are only introduced at Basel. That being said, there is precedent for a midyear BLNR and LN GMT Master update this year, now that the BLRO SS was introduced Basel '18

I think it was the original D-Blue that did

Rolex always makes some changes and modifications to movements and other minor cosmetic variances outside Basel.

Yes, I remember dial changes coming outside of Basel, Bluesy sunburst for eg, but more fundamental changes are for the press and fair.
