114060 or 216570 Polar?
It has been a year since I sold my last Rolex.
That was a Sub ND 114060. Kinda missed wearing a watch on bracelet, after a year only on PAMs. I want to buy one Rolex, as a summer/weekend watch. I am thinking of buying it new and it must not have PCLs. So no GMT for now. I hate the hands on black-dial Exp II and prefer the 114060 over 116610. Long story, short, my final vs. is between the Submariner ND and the Polar Explorer II. Which one do you recommend and why? |

Which one first, because you need both. I have the 114060 and I'm looking toward the polar (love the orange) AND the Milgauss blue. I've pondered trading the ND but I know I would regret doing so.

I went through the exact same predicament and went with the Sub ND. I really liked the fact that the Explorer II is less common plus it has the additional functions (GMT plus date), but in the end the ceramic bezel (scratch resistance) and the glidelock clasp won me over. You really can't go wrong with either.

114060 — it is my favorite modern Rolex and gets the most wrist time out of my collection — especially on weekends and vacations. It’s easy to set / change the time without having to worry about the date function - it goes with just about anything - and it has the classic Submariner look and dial symmetry. To me it is the staple Sub that never gets old.
Of all my watches I can easily say the watches that have gotten the most wrist time overall — 14060m and 114060. Good luck!! Look forward to see which you choose! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For this choice - Polar Exp2 wins for sure. The white dial, orange hand and amazing colour that comes off the steel bracelet /case / bezel makes it a perfect summer watch. Especially if you will be spending more time outdoors active. The date and 24hr hand give it a tonne more practicality also. Looking forward to getting a Milgaus Blue & BLNR when I can - pics of my trying my friends on! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As I told you had the 114060 and was really happy with it.
I just sold it so I can wear another watch It got 100% of my wrist-time. Never had any watch with GMT function and think that the Polar Exp II looks like a fun watch to own. On the other hand while acquiring a new sport steel Rolex has become really hard in terms of availability, I think is a no-brainer to have the Sub ND. Price is same for both as I have been quoted the Exp II with some discount. |

I was debating selling my ND for the polar recently but just couldn’t do it. The lug to lug was way too long for my 6.5” wrist. Since you already had the sub, might be fun to try out the polar this time around though.

Well I have a 114060 and am trying to decide if I want the Explorer II in Polar or Black for my next piece.

I have both...if it was just a one-watch decision, I'd go 114060. More versatile. Polar EXP is a fun watch to mix it up with though.

I tried the two on and the decision was clear as day. The 42mm Explorer doesn’t feel nearly as well proportioned as the Submariner, and as a guy who mostly wore 42mm and larger watches, the Submariner felt just right and the Explorer II felt a bit off. 114060 all the way.

I've owned both at the same time and love both, but the 114060 quickly started getting much more wear so I let the polar go. I've almost re-acquired it a few times over the past few years, but I've been holding off in hopes that it gets a ceramic bezel. I love the ceramic bezels (personal preference) and prefer the slightly smaller size of the Sub. Both are fantastic though.

For me the 216570 wins it.

114060 or 216570 Polar?
I'd say the 114060 as well. Not fan of the Explorer II white or black bezel. The Rolex Submariner without date magnifier corresponds to the original model of 1954. It is arguably the most recognized, respected, and clandestinely reproduced wristwatch of the 20th (and 21st) century.

Since you had one go around with the Sub and it didn’t last, why not try the polar

Can’t go wrong with 114060, especially as a weekend/summer watch.

Had same debate years ago.... Sub ND. Sooo classic. Also looks great with rubber strap or NATO if/when you want to change to look up.

Thought about it over and over.
Tried the Polar Exp II and just didn't sing to me. I have no problem wearing larger watches, as I am a Paneristi but this just seemed off-proportioned. 116710LN came to mind, again, just for a bit but PCLs are a no-go feature for me. A couple of phonecalls, 2 weeks of waiting and BOOM! A fresh out of factory, fully stickered 114060 This is the first time I am buying the same watch twice. The aesthetics, versatility, build quality along with the extremely useful glidelock clasp tick all the boxes for me. Really happy to own this watch once again. Let's see if this is going to be a keeper after all! |
