First Rolex purchase

Hi everyone. Just joined the forum after months of looking and reading different posts. Thought it was about time I joined and posted my own.

I’m currently on a waiting list for the SS daytona which I’ve been told by my local AD will be about two years. I’m happy to wait for it but in the mean time I’m also down for a non date submariner which should be a matter of weeks now. I’ve never been in the position to be able to buy a Rolex but always loved them and luckily I can now look at possibly starting a small collection which is a dream come true.

The other watch I love the look of is the GMT Batman (seems I want the ones everyone else wants) but sounds like a long wait for that too. My only concern is getting the submariner non date and then the gmt became available and I wouldn’t have the funds to get both unless one was done on 0% finance but do Rolex limit the amount you’re allowed to buy?

Do you think going for the non date Sub is a good choice or wait for the gmt? I’m not the most patient person in the world but also can’t affford to pay the black market prices so have no choice but to wait for the ones I want.

But I’m proper excited to get the call to say the Submariner is ready to collect. It’s a classic and always been a fan.

Steve

I would go with the ND Submariner as it is one of my favorite all time Rolex watches. It can also be had for a few thousand less than the Batman. It will also be here in a few weeks so you can start enjoying it. I would not buy the Batman if you are on the list for the Daytona-C unless money is not a concern. The Daytona-C with the white dial and the Submariner ND are a great two watch collection.

Thanks for the reply.

I really like the non date sub so definitely looking forward to getting one. I definitely won’t be able to get all three unless I can do one on 0% and lay it before the daytona comes in but not sure if that’s do able yet. I’m down for the black dial Daytona but change my mind daily which one I prefer.

Welcome Steve.

You must have some patience if you’re going to wait 2 years for the Daytona

Those three would be an awesome trio, and Yes the Submariner is worth picking up. It’s a modern classic and a pleasure to wear and own.

Just such nice models but all down to cost and what I can afford at the time of the call but ready for the sub as soon as the phone rings. Excited 👌

Yet another Steve from UK, anyway welcome!

Get the ND now and then you can sell it for the BLNR if that comes in later and you prefer it.

Us Steve’s are too common 😆

My local AD said the same thing to me that I could trade it but ideally like to start a collection. Have to see what happens I guess but just excited to get my first watch. Massive jump from what I’m wearing now 👍🍾

Have you considered the non BLNR GMT? The all black LN model?
In my opinion, that would be a better option than the sub and BLNR

I like the black GMT but probably prefer the non date sub and it’s cheaper. If I got a blue black option gmt now I would choose it over the sub but hopefully one day I can collect both. Both are lovely watches though.

Good luck getting 0% finance from a dealer on any of those watches. You’d be best off with a 0% credit card if needs be.

I have quite a good friendship with the local AD but when I asked him about the sub while I wait for the Daytona he said he would do 0% for 2 years on the sub. I haven’t asked about the daytona in two years time but maybe that watch won’t be an option for finance. 0% credit card could be an option for that like you say 👍

congrats on beginning your journey steve. once the watch bug bites you... there's no real going back.

personally i love subs, particularly vintage ones. when i first began i gravitated towards modern, but now my collection is strictly vintage. if you're looking for a watch to "hold you over" until you can purchase your daytona, there are many good vintage models that are the same price as the modern subs. plus they are increasing in value, whereas modern subs (depending on the model) typically will take a dip in value after you purchase and wear it

Yeh can see this taking over my life haha. Worse hobbies to have though I guess 😬

I like some of the older subs but after seeing them both in person I probably prefer the newer ones. I’m planning on keeping them for a long time and want to enjoy wearing them. Obviously would be nice if I don’t lose loads on them but not really thinking that way. Maybe I should be 🙈
