Question on 5 digit and 6 digit serial/model
What’s the difference between the 5 and 6 digit? Sorry if this has been explained or talked about. Just want to get a better understanding. Just started to get into watches last year. Thanks for the help.

There are also 4 digit references that are even older still, 4 digits are usually considered vintage, 5 digit considered after the quartz crisis, 6 digits for 21st century models approximately

The 6 digits are the most recent model reference numbers.
This might be a generalisation, but I think they changed from 5 to 6 digits around the time when the bezels were upgraded from aluminium to ceramic. There maybe exceptions to this with some model references as I am sure some of the more knowledgeable members will no doubt testify (i'm no expert!) but I think that's true to say of the sports models at least, Submariner's, GMT's etc. Cheers Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
