1965 Rolex GMT (Gilt dial w/ small 24 hour hand)
Serial number 1428XXX, and the model is 1675. This 1965 Rolex GMT has the original gilt dial and a small 24hr hand. It's in fantastic condition, as you can see by the photos below. This watch belongs to my father, he purchased it in VA sometime in '65 just before he left for Vietnam. When he finally came home to stay in '71, it was put away and forgotten about along with many other things from his time over there until around eight years ago when they moved (retired) to a smaller house. He took it to a watch maker to have it cleaned, the crystal and bezel insert were replaced, and they put on a oyster flip lock bracelet. He thinks he has the original parts that were returned after it was serviced, but we aren't sure where they are at the moment. Unfortunately, the box and papers were discarded when it was purchased. The watch keeps excellent time, and it is in excellent condition.
As much as I'd love to buy it from him, my father has asked that I offer it for sale here so it doesn't cause friction amongst my brothers/sisters and myself. After asking for advice on this forum and timezone, getting a great deal of info from members through private messages, and consulting a few vintage Rolex places we have decided on a reasonable asking price of $7500. If you need any information or extra photos, please message me and I will get back to you straight away. |
